Was any other team giving him this much? I honestly thought the best he'd do was 5x5. Everyone knows the off ice stuff but the problem on the ice is simple. He is not a smart hockey player, lacks basic skills to see how a play is developing or make the right and quick decsision with the puck. This will end badly.

True, but I think Ehlers and Pastrnak would be serious comperables. I think both players are more productive offensively and much more effecient defensively. Not to add they are at least 6 years younger.

Kane comparable is okposo and lucic..signing those guys as UFAs for 6x6...sign a slighty younger at the time of UFA Kane for 7x7.

Thats just market value and the price of doing business in UFA

Bad move by the Sharks as ;
1) it will cost them a 1 st rounder instead of a 2nd rounder in 2019 which will be a lottery pick.

From what I have heard it's a PROTECTED LOTTERY PICK..

from CapFriendly:
"Conditions: *Becomes a 2019 1st round pick if Sharks re-sign Kane. If Sharks don't make the playoffs in 2019, then Sharks have the option to retain the 2019 1st and Buffalo receives a 2020 first round pick instead.
**San Jose has the option to retain the 2019 4th round pick. If they retain the 2019 4th, Buffalo receives a 2020 3rd round pick instead."

Johnny was an RFA with no arbitration rights.

Kane was an impending UFA.

Entirely different.

1) it will cost them a 1 st rounder instead of a 2nd rounder in 2019 which will be a lottery pick. San Jose will have the option to keep that 2019 and defer the 1st going to Buffallo until 2020. The only problem with that is that 2020 SJ 1st rounder will be a lottery pick as well. Same position Ottawa is in this year.

2) The true Kane is going to show up once he has a guaranteed contract. He is a selfish player and a loner...... not a team player. ( Maybe he can get a condo on Alcatraz island.... and fly a personal Helicopter into practice and games just as he used to fly into Toronto from Buffallo for N.B.A. games).

Who gives a poop? There's a giant lake in the way, plus traffic is a female dog on the QEW going into Toronto pretty much no matter the time of day except for the dead of night. If I could afford it I'd take a helo to Toronto too.

That said. The Sharks got hosed.
