Simmonds is not getting traded. I’m fine with it. Hextall will not trade a player like him that just gutted out a season of injury that he went through. It has been tough on the core players of this team the past few years. They go into every season knowing there’s no depth in the organization to fill in with injuries, and that Hexy is not going to be making trades to bring vets in here to supplement a playoff push.

The Flyers have been adding quality players to the lineup every year and will do so again this season. That's called building through the draft.

Gaining knowledge and insight into the CBA over a period of years is not comparable to having in depth knowledge of hundreds of draft eligible players.
- MJL

Even though all players are different, I don't see how watching prospects a bit for years doesn't give you a similar amount of knowledge on the matter of trying to project how players will turn out.

Not if you do a slapdash job of it, and skip over sections like the article covering when a team can offer a free agent an eight year deal.

That's not accurate. Nobody can remember every detail. You didn't become a member of this site until 2013. The Cap started in 2005. I was one of the first posters on here who actually had knowledge and understood the cap and explained a lot of it. Those that have been around since then are aware of that but nice try anyway.

Most have seen some highlights and a few games of players and are making conversation about players. With the draft coming up that's only logical that there would be discussions about players. That's not what I'm talking about. It's more about claiming to have in depth knowledge of hundreds of junior level draft eligible players. NHL GM's can't do that.
- MJL

Sounded to me like you were just trying to poop on people that give their opinions on certain prospects, basically saying they don't know what they're talking about.

I understand that Evander Kane is a good player and all, but I am seeing another Lucic situation with that deal.

Sample size and what Bill talks about in his blog about recency bias is really why I don't get into looking at and rating prospects. Even more so, I don't have close to the amount of time needed to do it justice. Nothing wrong with having an opinion and talking about players and who likes who or doesn't and why, but the reality is that teams have to employ a team of scouts to go and watch these players over and over over a significant period of time to form an accurate analysis of a player. Any fan, unless he doesn't have a job, no family to deal with, couldn't possibly come up with accurate appraisals of draft eligible players on their own. Anyone who claims to, is faking it and taking publicly available info for themselves.

Well, I don't know any NHL scouts, so I'll take the word of a few guys that a) I know watch these players play (there are ways to watch these games on demand and I've gathered there could be ways to watch only their shifts? Can someone confirm or deny? Regardless...they watch these players way more than most of the rest of us) and b) has a great grasp on hockey and "what it takes". OB and Mono watch these guys like crazy. It's their hobby. I trust what they say and enjoy reading their opinions on various players. What's wrong with that? Is it unreasonable that their conclusions on these players is accurate? You have to be a scout to have an accurate assessment of a player? Don't you take Bill's word on Flyers' prospects? Hell, you know the CBA like the back of your hand- based on this, since you're not a full time NHL employee, why should I trust you and your waste of time in studying the CBA?

This is classic pot stirring.

Try pot smoking. Way more fulfilling.

You'd have to watch literally thousands and thousands of hours of games. NHL teams have to have a team of scouts who travel across their territories to watch these players over long periods of time to get an accurate reading on hundreds of draft eligible players. If you want to watch some highlights, some games, read some articles on players and come up with some opinions for discussion on players, nothing wrong with that. That's being a fan and I made that perfectly clear in my previous posts if you read it with an open mind.

I've never asked you to trust my knowledge of the CBA and I don't care if you don't.

Nothing pot stirring about it, it's simply the reality of it. Not PC enough for you?

Why not play Frost tonight in place of a player who hasn't had a good playoff.

Hey, folks: Not that anyone truly cares, but a few days ago I posted something and a few folks responded, which I always appreciate -- always enjoy talking hockey.

Just wanted to say that unfortunately that day, I couldn't respond because work has been hellish. Just wanted to say that because sometimes, message boards can skew negative. But when we have time and make efforts to talk hockey, I do enjoy being in this place and even if I don't always agree, I do try to read and respond to what people say in response to things I post.
