OK...then. So you would've liked Buffalo to commit 7M of cap to someone who scored 30 goals once 6 seasons ago? Can I interest you in David Backes with no money retained?
EDIT: Kane could've walked for nothing too. - glove_was_stuck
I was interested in keeping him depending on the price. If it's 7x7...that is too much for me. No, I would have been out. It's more about that term for me tbh.
And yes, he could have walked so he had to be traded, but also other players of similar caliber got greater returns. This more closely aligns with what a trade deadline player of his talent level should acquire...late first, middle round pick and a b prospect. Just saying I thought the return was short before this turned into a 1st rounder was all. |

if I were ever a GM, I would NEVER sign someone to 7 years. Mind you, I don't know what's in the fine print, but so much can happen in that time. 5 years would be my max. |

Sure I can see that. But Kane is vastly overrated. Based on his last 9 years, he is an underacheving 20 goal score and not the power forward(another nauseating overrated player type) that he is thought to be. Huge mistake for San Jose. |

Having seen him play I can understand why a team would really value his skill set. He actually does play the prototypical power forward role pretty well, he hits hard, he fights, he was one of our best forecheckers/retrievers. Still, it all came down to term. For 3 years or so, 7M is a risky proposition, but he has some elite qualities. Is he a 30 goal scorer? No. Is he a 20 goal scorer with extras? Yes.
Won't be missed, but doesn't help he's gone if that makes sense. |

You should be happy that Charles Wang doesn't own your Canucks, Didn't Wang give DiPeitro a 15 year deal? |
