It depends on who he is, I'd sign JT to 7 years without hesitation but Kane would be at the top of my list of guys I wouldn't invest 7 years in - obie
Seems like the perfect candidate to sit on his deal.. |

Or miss a couple practices, get into bar fights, draw all kinds of negative attention to himself and the organization... Or much worse! |

for the next 5 years Kane will make more than Mackinnon and Sheifele, that's funny and sad. |

Not really. Those guys signed their deals two years ago. At that point MacKinnon had a career high of 52pts and Scheifele a career high of 60pts. |

You compared 2 RFA deals to a UFA deal. That's funny and sad. |

No matter what he's likely still viewed as more consistent and has scored a lot more - Brandon Smillie
The key word is "has," though. GMs are going to look to the future, not the past. Jagr is the 2nd greatest scorer in NHL history, yet no one wants him on their team. |

I'd still take Jagr over half the Habs roster players as it stands |

One of Couture or Pavelski will walk next off season, I can't see them keeping both
And why not? Couture will get a multi year extension, Pavelski being that he's 33 years old would probably get a 2 year deal at most. |

He's a good player and we suck at LW, so wasn't a win. Still, big difference between a late first and late second pick. At least we got something of value for him is all I'm thinking, 2nd rounders bust out too often for that to be counted on as anything. |

OK...then. So you would've liked Buffalo to commit 7M of cap to someone who scored 30 goals once 6 seasons ago? Can I interest you in David Backes with no money retained?
EDIT: Kane could've walked for nothing too. |
