Good deal. Going to be great if the sharks can keep Kane swimming straight.

Thornton is either done or needs to play for peanuts if he wants to be around for a potential cup run. Dude cant be making $8M anymore and miss all of the playoffs. If the Kane signing happens, good job by the sharks. They need to find a replacement center for Jumbo though.
Unfortunately, Kanes slut pool is going to be reduced to mexican townies unless he's willing to travel up to San Francisco to bang the wives of CEO's or venture capitalists.

I think Kane found a place he likes and fits in and has strong voices around him to keep him in the right frame. Who wouldn’t want to live and play in San Jose with so,e tremendous young talent coming along. I still believe Jumbo comes bac for a final year victory tour at a reasonable rate and another role model for Kane.
I don’t think Tavares was a realistic option and he stays in the NY Area. Better to lock Kane up now than let him hit the market. This will attract more talent and continue to be a place players wanna play. This real risk probably comes after 5 years if he declines but that is way down the road.
There is some real talent on the Cuda and forwards will be fighting for bottom six positions.
There is more reason to let other older free agents walk.

$7M to Kane makes me feel good about Kessel's $6.8M. Much better point producer.

I hope he stays in the island tbh. Tavares is a top 5 C in this league and it would be a blow to lose him there.

I hope he doesn't, obviously I'd like to see him in Montreal but if not I'd rather he goes out west

Seems like Montreal is fighting for Kovalchuk. Alex The Great is helping on this matter.

Kovalev is one of my favorite ex-Penguins. #27 was awesome.

Terrible contract for an overrated player.

That's according to EK and I don't put much stock into what he claims... Kovalchuck would be alright on a one year deal if all else fails... They can then flip him for a 1st on deadline day if he performs up to par

The money is right but I wouldn't invest 7 years on that particular player

Money is overpay by about $1M imo.

A good deal would have been 4 x $6M per

How was Radulov? Was he a game changer for Montreal or another Pacioretty type?

Kovalchuk is better than all of them.

Radulov is nothing like Pacioretty

Kovalchuck was better than both of them when he was in this league and interested enough but all that is irrelevant, on this Montreal team he would be wasted, like I said, if they can't get a legitimate 1st line C and Kovalchuck agrees to sign in Montreal, all he represents is an extra 1st round pick at deadline time

You know as much as I do when a player reaches FA the deals are in their favor and teams end up overpaying, so 1 million too much is right on par... But the term, especially for him, very questionable indeed

4x6 would be a great deal, i think every team in the league (with a need for a winger) would love to pay that.

5x7 or 6x6 would have been a good (reasonable) deal. 7x7 is nuts, dont even think any other team would have matched that. But sharks window is closing quick..

Kane is an awesome player.. but term is too long, though maybe needed to get the deal done. Kovalchuk blows, he would be perfect "Les Canadien"... Give him a 1 yr $10 million contract...what a joke... everyone needs a one dimension Russian player, Habs need two. And btw, JT either NYR or Tor, bank on it... Big Lou cannot build an arena any quicker.. NY is brutal for construction delays... 3 yrs really means 4 1/2 yrs.

Oh for sure when a guy is UFA status the contracts are just silly. I just wonder when GMs will learn that signing a 27 year old to a 7 year deal is bad business.

Sharks are most likely headed down the inevitable path of mediocrity like DET did.

The Burns and Vlasic deals are already kind of insane. Add this one plus Couture and Pavelski next season and you have a lot of money tied up to 30+ guys.
