David Perron?
- MCGUIZZY

Not a fan
Until this year, he didn’t really do much
And although his point totals were nice,
it was mostly with assists

We need a couple guys that can actually “finish”

Vegas has all the Cap space in the World to keep guys like Neal & Perron too
I think they’ll stick around

I think we are the only 2 posters who feel like the future is really bright. Keep up the positivity.

I think the future, even as of right now, is pretty bright. We have a lot of good peaces we just need something to either bring them together (Real Leadership) or maybe 1 or 2 more good players (which may possibly be in our system already). Oh, and a goalie, although I do like Ullmark.

From what I tend to see from most Toronto fans is that signing JVR, especially at what it will probably cost (think Kane's new deal) would be a bad idea. He isn't the type of scorer that the Sabres need, tends to be more like Sam R. and gets most of his goals down low and in front of the net. I don't think it's worth spending top dollar on a player like that and I think Toronto agrees or they would be re-signing him.

That’s where a lot of goals are scored though
Especially in the playoffs

I think the Leafs are making room to go after Tavares this year
And either Doughty or Karlsson next year

Is it just me or does it aggravate anyone else that the Sabres' coaching staff, no matter who it has been, never really gives young guys not drafted in the First a Real Chance to play in the top six? I don't mean for a few shifts or even a game or two I mean a Real good extended look at a player like Baptiste (There are and have been others) for example to see if he can succeed in that role. People keep bringing up the Vegas model as if the real reason they played so well was because they started from scratch. I think the best thing Vegas did was give players a chance to succeed at a higher level, like Karlsson for example, who was only given bottom six minutes on Columbus. Vegas gave players a real chance to succeed at a higher level, mostly out of necessity, but also because I think they have a coach patient enough to see what his players could do when given a role that better suited them.

Bylsma got that rap too, but he gave Carrier a ton of time at the top of the lineup, even when his numbers didn't really justify it. Everyone does it, I think it's just coach to coach as to whom they favor. Like Girgensons got a ton of time with Eichel this year.

Is there a winger we could sign who actually fits what Botts is looking for?

I know JvR isn’t “fast” per se,
but should we consider going “all in” for him?

Obviously he’s proven to be a consistent scorer, even though given fairly limited icetime in a middle6 role

- jdfitz77

What is the fit?

I keep hearing north/south speed guy.

How about a guy with experience on the LW.
A veteran with years of nhl savy
A consistent scorer and also on the pp
A guy that lives around the net
Someone that isnt going to cost a bunch
Someone that doesn't mind signing 1 year deals
Someone familiar with the area
Someone who has friends on the team
Someone who could score in the shootout
Someone who could help place wagers for teammates

They should look "around the world" for this type of player

I'm drawing a blank

Honest question.
Anyone think that the new Kane Contract will possibly make a Mark Stone extension too rich for Ottawa or do you think they will pay top dollar for him no matter what, that includes signing Karlsson as well.

I agree
Top 6 winger
Bottom 6 winger

A good goalie is what we are really lacking. Hopefully ullmark is ready

Olofsson is a perfect candidate to plug into a top six complimentary role down the line. I do worry about Housleys patience with a guy like him tho
- MCGUIZZY

I’d like to see Rodrigues get a shot on Jack’s wing
He produced in a mostly bottom6 role last year at a .5ppg pace
And he & Jack obviously have history together where they clicked

E Rod-Eichel-Okposo
That could be a pretty decent line

As of now, that would leave us with:
Wilson-O’Reilly-Reinhart
Bailey?-Mittelstadt-Baptiste?

Of course the Wilson spot is the most obvious area in need of upgrade in that group
Can Smith or O’Regan or one of the other kids beat him out?
Or at least pass him at some point?

Maybe Grabner?
But I’m sure we’d have to outbid other teams for him to come here

They are cheap
Hopefully we can steal him away somehow
They should just start a full rebuild

If the Sabres don't trade ROR I would like to see E Rod get a chance with Eichel, but if they do he will most definitely be our best option for 3C unless they sign someone in FA. Also, I would like to see what Smith can do as 2LW with Wilson dropping down to bottom 6, he is more suited for that role and we really need players who can score either in our top six or player with Mitts.

Vanek's exactly what the Sabres are trying to do.
Outscore the opponent.

Have 10-12 forwards that can score. They call it secondary scoring. SEE PITTSBURGH

I never really liked him, but he scores goals professionally.

We deserve him cheap now, karma

Where is that guy, anyway? I enjoyed him. I'm assuming he was banned based on the thin-skinned nature of this place.

So in one calendar year Botts has added Dahlin, Mittelstadt, Pilut, Scandella, 2019 first. And subtracted Kane (UFA). Pretty good start
