If Ryan Merkley falls, it would be hard to pass him up

Needs work on his defensive game,
but he’s a RH shot with elite offensive skills & skating ability
Definitely has “bust” potential if he doesn’t get his defensive game in order
But could also be worth it

We should tank the next two years so we'll get Hughes and Lafreniere. Emirite?
- TheSabresTaco

I remember all those years we spent in a race for Ninth, just missing the playoffs or getting in and losing in the first round which found the Sabres continually drafting in the middle to late part of the First Round. It's almost preferable that they suck and keep getting high picks. The counter to that is the Sabres have to start winning at some point and I think they have to start at least showing some improvement next season.

My personal opinion, especially after spending all those years with middling picks is that if you are going to miss the playoffs it's better to get the highest pick possible, then again this new lottery format changes a lot of things, you don't need to suck to get a High pick, but we would need luck on our side (which has been in short supply the last few years) for that to work in our advantage.

Nick Foles blocked a trade to start for the Browns to be the Eagles backup. And you think Buffalo has a complex.

Ok...
so then wouldn’t a “smart GM” from a Cup contender offer him a contract?

And if so...
why would he then choose to come here?

- jdfitz77

Why haven't "smart gms" that have won the cup signed vanek in the past?

You also don't need to suck on the ice to draft well. Just a thought.

More talented offensively...
but like i said, he does have potential to be a bust

Most 2nd rounders don’t end up being more than depth players at best though
So we can pick another “Bailey” type,
or we can risk it on upside

Since decent bottom6 guys are fairly easily acquired...
I’m of the opinion that u should draft for upside after the 1st round
I’m for taking the risks in those situations

Now if we can trade pick 32 for a top6 winger...
then sure, definitely do that!
Idk if that’s possible though?

I'm not sure about that. At the rate he is fallen he may end up a Third Round pick (which unfortunately we do not have) so I wouldn't waste what is essentially a late 1st round pick, considering how deep this draft is suppose to be, on a player like Merkley. Also, unless a great defender drops I think the Sabres need to go Left Shoot C/W with pick 32 after taking Dahlin #1.

Quinton Byfield Might give him a run for the top pick
6’3, 190lbs scoring machine
Oh, and he’s only 15yrs old

- jdfitz77

Lafreniere destroyed Connor McDavids rookie year stats

Both could go 1-2 then you have Simontaival Guhle, , Holtz, Rossi,

Bring me that pick

I feel like that doesn’t really happen much in the NHL drafts (moving up, trading back)

But sure
If the price is reasonable

Didn’t Murray try to read three 2nds the one year to move to the late teens, early 20s & couldn’t get anyone to bite?
Thought i remembered hearing that
