McPhee has been an average front office staffer throughout his career and Gallant has been an objectively bad head coach throughout his. I originally thought McPhee had a sub par expansion draft but it ended up really working out. I'm enjoying the success Vegas is having so I hope they keep it up.

So now that Kane is off the market, are people still looking to make a splash at wing or was he the one name out there that made sense?

Perron, JVR, Nash, Maroon, Vanek, Neal, Comeau are the only LWs over 30 points. Then you have Kunitz, Calvart, Komarov, and some others.

Best bet is probably bottom 6 specialists like Vanek, Grabner and Pirri.

Nash and Neal are good 1 year options imo.

Perron and JVR likely get overpaid. Same goes for Stastny.

Under the radar signing that might turn out to be a middle 6 guy is Matt Peca.

I'd laugh pretty hard if they got Perron again. Good player, but was just a bad fit here.

If Comeau can still skate (didn't watch the Avs at all) I like him as a bottom 6 fit that would add a little physical play while still playing a speed skill game. Never wanted him to leave, but he got overpaid.

Lot of guys I wanted as Hornqvist replacements, but since we kept him I'm not as big on needing guys like JVR or Maroon.

Grabner feels like a guy that will get overpaid to me, though he'd be a nice fit.

Think I'd agree about shooting for a bottom 6 type. Kessel, Hornqvist, and Guentzel are clear top 6. Hags played well with Malkin. Then there's Rust, Sprong, and if he's still here Sheary.

Like I said above, I think I'd aim for Comeau. Middle six skill, can skate, plays both wings, and adds a little more jam to the line-up. Also a guy who has played a lot of PK, further distancing us from needing guys like Kuhnhackl and Rowney.

PIT doesn't really have the room for a UFA, cap wise or roster space wise.

Doubt Grabner gets overpaid. He has never been though too highly of around the league and NJD scratched him 3 out of 5 playoff games. Comeau is definitely bottom 6 skill. Who are you removing from the lineup for these types of guys?

I would bet Sheary gets moved. I can't see them moving anyone else.

You think it's a roster shakeup for the sake of a shakeup or do you think they actually can get a UFA that provides more value than Sheary?

I could end up wrong, but with that goal total I think someone gives Grabner a bad contract.

I'm removing Sheary, but basically replacing him with Sprong. Comeau would replace Kuhnhackl.

Agree they probably don't really have the cap room for a splashy move. If they did, I'd make it at defense.

The people who have splashy moves planned usually dump Sheary, Hunwick, and Hagelin, but I'd rather keep Hagelin and save that cap space for next year when Guentzel gets a raise.

Personally I think Grabner on the 4th line is better than Sheary on the 4th line and Grabner is known for playing the PK, so that would replace Kuhn.

Guentzel-Sid-Horny
Hags-Geno-Kessel
Rust-Brassard-Sprong
Simon-Sheahan-Grabner

is what I'd like to see. I think that anyone who signs him is going to see that like 8 of his goals were ENGs, which I think should bring his price down. Although Matt Cane's projection has him a little under ~4m per year, that surprised me, given Grabner's contract history.

Tierney put Cane's salary projections into a nice chart.

I can see the logic behind that. I see Grabs as getting 2 x $2.5m per

This was from Yohe this week:

The worst defensive forwards on the roster are Guentzel, Kessel, Sprong and Sheary…Sullivan doesn’t like any of those guys playing together, if possible,

So I'm trying to imagine lines where all those guys are on separate lines because if that's what Sully wants to do then it feels pointless to argue otherwise.

Jake's with Sid and since my too 3 RW options are Kessel, Hornqvist, and Sprong and 2 of those Sully doesn't want with Jake this is a no-brainer.

Kessel and Sprong I have on the second and 3rd line and I want guys who defend well on the other side. Unless they add a 2 way top 6 guy Hags is starting next to Malkin.

Rust can play either 2/3 LW as the middle 6 forward who helps balance the line or as 4 RW to add some speed to what was a slow line.

ZAR starts out as a bottom 6 LW.

Really leaves one spot. Could make Sheary a 4th line wing, I'm just ready to move on. Unless they surprise me with a really good 2 way LW, a guy like Comeau makes sense to round out the roster in the ? spot with Simon as the 13th forward.

Not IMO. They're probably close in value just different players. I'd accept Grabner as well, just think Comeau will be the cheapest of the 3 and is probably the one I'd take regardless.

Kane was the guy I thought worthy of shaking up the roster. His age, skill and size being the primary factors. I'd love to know if they really see Brassard as a possible wing. It seems like he's not excited about the 3C role.
