Meh, I still think the GM makes the call in the end. Would really be interesting to see who Timmins ranked in the draft and who the Habs ended up picking. I suspect rounds 1 & 2 are heavily skewed towards GMs making the picks, the rest of the draft not so much.

There was that one glorious year where QP declared that all of the habs picks could basically have been 1st rounders.

Timmins is VP Player personnel, Churla works for him.

Promoted to vice president of player personnel in July 2014, Trevor Timmins is entering his 15th season with the Montreal Canadiens. He oversees the Canadiens' amateur scouting system, including the annual NHL Entry Draft and amateur free-agent recruitment. Trevor also oversees the Club's amateur scouting staff, covering Canada, the United States and Europe.

Trevor also supervises the annual NHL combine, as well as the Canadiens' own combine, a pre-draft player evaluation process which takes place at the Bell Sports Complex in Brossard every summer.

I'd like to think you're wrong about this.

The head scout has the most knowledge on all these kids.... sure if there's an internal debate the GM might make the final call but otherwise ffs let the expert make the pick?

The only example I have of what you're saying was the Habs passing on Giroux for Fischer because Gauthier/Gainey wanted a defenseman.

well documented Timmins wanted Kreider and GM went for Leblanc

It's also well documented he wanted David Fischer and GM went for David Fischer

I think it depends on the team structure.

The Wings obviously let their Scouting guys make the picks when they were pulling amazing players virtually every round in the 90s, early 00s.

Gainey was a good example of otherwise - he wanted Price, he got Price regardless of what anyone else int he organization wanted... I think the Habs have had a series of GMs that have decided a lot of early picks in the drafts. MB was involved in player personnel / scouting w/ the Hawks, perhaps he feels qualified to decide the first few picks (as he has likely seen those top players a few times in person).

What I am not sure of, is if the picks were supported by Timmins/scouting or if the GMs just picked what they believed best.

I'd just hire someone to draft according to Bob Mckenzie's draft list and save tons of money.

If anyone thinks Bergevin doesn't have that big (frank)ing nose of his stuck in the drafting process, they're either on glue or paint thinner..
