I don't know why montreal makes this trade. Calgary would be taking a lot of useless filler to get pacioretty

Montreal makes this trade because Sam Bennett is still a better offensive C than Danault, regardless of the bust label, Habs didn't waste a 4th overall pick on him so it doesn't really matter to them and at 21, his numbers look very similar to O'Reilly at that age before he broke out and became the player he is now... And the real target for Montreal is Valimaki, who replenishes the void left when Sergachev was dealt

If you know the ROR similarities i'm sure cgy does too, which probably means they will want more, or valimaki is out of the deal.

Calgary doesn't select until the 4th round, Habs have 4 picks in the 2nd round... Calgary is pretty deep on D and looking for a scoring W...

Pieces can always be moved around but I think in principle, it makes a little bit of sense...

It does, yes, but i see cgy trying to move one of their more exspensive dmen (hamilton, brodie or stone) instead.

Most seem to think Brodie will be the odd man out but with the way things stand in Montreal right now, Brodie doesn't make a whole lot of sense

Is Hamilton playing on the left side? If so, it could make sense for Mtl.

Not for the price it wouldn't... They'd probably want the 3rd and Galchenyuk! And he's a righty...

Taking brodie may mean also getting one of bennett/jankowski/valimaki

Ideally it would be both Bennett and Valimaki in a much bigger deal with maybe the Habs flipping Brodie somewhere else afterwards, like Edmonton! Or even having a 3rd team involved, any team with interest in Brodie

Here are the players the Habs need to send qualifying offers to in order to retain their rights

Daniel Carr, Phillip Danault, Jacob de la Rose, Markus Eisenschmid, Zachary Fucale, Jeremy Grégoire, Michael McCarron, Tom Parisi, Kerby Rychel, Logan Shaw, and Rinat Valiev.

I think Carr and Shaw are gone
