I don't see JVR signing a less-than-market deal with any team besides the Leafs and even that's a longshot. (I say the Leafs because he's been here 6 years and that'd count for something I'd imagine.)

I don't know this does seem familiar to Shattenkirk.

Without a doubt. I think the only difference here is the ages you're buying up. And entire prime versus a year or two of prime and then a declining asset.

Yeah I could see that, two years younger. Still I think JVR is a 7 million dollar guy if Kane is..
- ClarksonDavid

I agree - I thought Kane was 26 and JVR was 29? Or has one just had a birthday and it's closer to 2 years than 3?

Rangers cleared the deck last year. Lots of cap space $25 million. I would think JVR would be a second or third choice after JT and Carlson.
- winsix

The Rangers could be really good, really fast...Three first rd picks this year( stupid Bruins, da fuq...for Rick Nash?)

They have Skjei, Buchnevich, Spooner, Namestnikov, Kreider.. If they can sign an impact free-agent they can be good pretty quickly..

Well I'd say Kane is more of a power forward but I mean production is production, no? Neither strike me as 200ft type players and more so focus on the offensive end of the ice so I would say you could draw comparables at least from a salary perspective. You're not getting a selke candidate either way so I also don't see a stark differentiation.

JVR actually younger, he hasn't been doing the nose candy and visiting booze cans for the past 8 seasons.

JvR is only 2 years older than Kane; But yeah, Kane has done his fair share of window licking

Could be but wasn't Shats' decision to want to play in NY pretty well publicized? I hadn't seen anything of the sort for JVR.

Outside of some chatter on Rangers board I don't think so. Still seems possible.

His 200ft game really impressed me. Especially when he was on shut down duty with Plekanec in game 4 (i think it was 4?).

He reminds me of a skilled forward that has and will continue to develop some defensive capabilities as, dare I say, Marchand. You know without the licking and general douche baggery.

- RickJames77

So, like, Bergeron.

If anyone seen the relatively barren lineup I posted earlier with who is currently signed, thoughts on Grabner returning?

I think he could be a cheap Komarov replacement that actually has wheels and can shoot and take a spot on the PK.

Adam French is a big fan of Grabner - ask him about the possibilities for Leafs to bring Grabner back

Interesting comparison between Kane and JVR:

https://public.tableau.co...NG6NXY?:display_count=yes

JVR has more impact 5-on-5, and is(surprisingly) better at shot suppression, but also plays against weaker competition, and gets fewer d-zone starts.

bottom line to me: old school gms think e.kane>>jvr.

i think jvr gets 1-1.25 less than kane.

JvR was at 62.5% O-zone starts;
Kane was at 58%.

Of course, JvR would have better shot suppression numbers; When more than 9 minutes of the 14 minutes per game you play, started in the o-zone.

It's what makes Eichel's true value so puzzling;

he ended up a -25 on the year, but 61% of his time on the ice was started in the offensive zone.

if they could somehow manage to sign Tavares and Kovalchuk... wouldn't they be better served to take those assets (or at least a couple of them) and acquire a top flight defenseman or perhaps two? With Tavares and Kovalchuk added to what they are already have.. I would think that helping Andersen out a bit might be a higher priority. Karlsson won't do that.
