But we do. About $22.1 million to fill 7-8 roster spots - Add back the $5.3 - when Horton goes on the IR, thats 27.4 million.
Nylander will increase to about $6.5 imo, so there is still over $20 million for 7 spots.
Remove $4 for Gardiner, can easily at JT and a quality d-man. At the very least 3 of those spots will be entry level deals.
Cap friendly is also not accounting for the cap going up to $80 million (based on $74.9 million cap - wow another $5 million - another quality d-man) - winsix
with lou gone, i hope we are done dipping into ltir. no more bonus penalties.
my guess is dubas will not borrowing from next year's cap to pay this year's. |

wtf....Babcock will Never allow that - Symba007
I take a lot jabs in here about Polak, but I think he had a pretty good year and plays better then people give him credit for....I was the HB punching bag at the begin of the year when I said he'd probably sign and play ok....a lot of those posters don't come around much anymore or don't talk so badly about Polak now. |

Who is going to trade a defensemen better than a 50pt plus dman who is a UFA in one year? I like Gardiner and if he had more term he'd carry value but pending UFA severely hampers the return. - Blazed
Leafs traded Roman (frank)EN Polak for two second round picks at the deadline, I would think that Gardiner is worth more.

Agreed, but those deals are always inflated at the trade deadline.
I don't see the Leafs holding onto Gardiner and trading him when they're on a playoff push, when his value would probably be the highest.
I honestly have no idea what he'd fetch. |

Nope, it was already promised to Buston Glassthews when he travelled to Arizona. |

This will be disappointing obviously but this is today's signed roster, without any re-signs or new acquisitions.
L1: Hyman - Matthews - Nylander
L2: Marleau - Kadri - Marner
L3: Johnsson - Lindholm - Kapanen
L4: Leivo - Aaltonen - Martin
P1: Reilly - Hainsey
P2: Gardiner - Zaitsev
P3: Dermott - Borgman
G1: Anderson
G2: McElhinney
A downgrade for last season, but I don't think there is a big panic to make a bad long term move. The end goal should be the long term still.
If Tavares doesn't come finding a good UFA deal or a sensible move that brings good value seems like a Dubas type strategy. The Marlies are rocking, the development system should continue to be a high priority. |

He doesn't have to, not much dead weight left, $1.2 for Kessel and Horton - has two more years - which can probably be moved next year for a pick.

I think our top 6 is good, barring injuries;
I would like the Leafs to sign Kuraly and Schaller out of Boston; They would definitely help;
Hyman-Matthews-Nylander
Marleau-Kadri-Marner
Johnsson-Lindholm/Aaltonen-Kapanen
Schaller-Kuraly-Brown

actually Babcock gave him a Mr Freeze and asked him to stop pouting, Glassthews cut his lip with the Mr Freeze and kicked Babcock out |

Chiapet gave NJ Hall - an MVP candidate for a d-man that is not as good as Gardiner. If the LV draft proved anything, it is that there are plenty of stupid GM's.

Honestly, I don't see how Carrick comes back. Maybe they trade him, or not qualify him.. An RFA, that hasn't been able to crack the top 6.. Only good thing about him, is that he is a RHD. - PatC80
He gets decent results in bottom minutes.
Dubas probably brings him back |

If the LV draft proved anything, it is that there are plenty of stupid GM's they got a lot of players that played well together, and bought into Gallant's system. As no one expected them to make the playoffs this year. - winsix

Interesting names, I think those are the type of value deals that seem more realistic. Actually looking at this mock roster I could see Bozak returning. I would like to turn the page from the Burke era finally though. |

Ive been disappointed with the leafs D for decades...whats another season.
Personally I would like to see Gardiner + (if need be) traded for another top 4 D who actually knows how to play D.
We can afford to lose out on some of his points, I want someone who knows how to play D. - Fakepartofme

Much more reasonable to acquire vs Trouba. Still think the Jets will want to unrealistic a return. You don't get to touch the holy trinity. |
