Why? cause Hunter and the Leafs parted ways?
I wasn't aware that Tavares was draftable. - bobbyisno1
Lou will get Tavares re-signed. |

I disagree, he is a very good manager, and will bring them stability. He'll likely fire Snow, and promote Hunter/himself to GM is my thinking. I kinda hope he starts to lose it haha. - Archaic

Unless they fire Snow, bringing in Lou just makes the Islanders more of a poopshow, not less. - Atomic Wedgie
Lou's "ability" to get starting goaltenders probably played a hand in the Isles decision

hunter cleared out all the dead weight scouts and hired all new ones. i suspect a lot will quit and follow hunter to his new job.
so, whether warranted or not, we are rebuilding the scouting department. - Tumbleweed
That would be a problem for sure. I never understood why the Leafs dont just hire the best scouts from all the organizations. They can outspend anyone, thats a problem you can easily throw money at. |

Unfortunately wont happen bc from sale of team, Wang gave Garf some type of iron-clad clause to stay and heard its for another 3-4yrs, so most likely Garf holds title but remains hands off or flat out reassigned..... ??? |

To be fair, Bracco, Timashov, Grundstrom, Brooks, Woll and Korshkov look like they can/will make the show in future. - walshyleafsfan
Not so sure about any of those to be honest. Probably Grundstrom as a depth guy, the rest are long shots. |

If I was a betting man, I would bet that Lou's plan would be to get Snow fired and Install Lou's son as GM. |

can you do snow's starting goalies too?
i think the isles were easily a playoff team 2 years ago with a good goalie and a proper starting goalie probably saves their season this past year too. |

This is legit the first time dominoes occured with a single move and yet Ek didn't use the opportunity!
Lou was let go of his GM position. Dominoes fall to Dubas being hired, Lou going to the Island and Hunter leaving. |

this is pretty much my thoughts on Hunter
67Sound
@67sound
Hunter’s apparent departure is a big “meh” for me. I just have no way to assess him. He built great teams in London but had structural advantages. I haven’t been that impressed by his TOR drafts, but how much autonomy/control did he have? I can’t assess him from the outside.
i am just not willing to accept someone is a Draft genius based on what evidence I have with the Leafs |

no, he CLEARLY said "an idiot"
I do think Mark Hunter is decent at drafting, but not the best ever. The Leafs have just been so bad at drafting in the past it was nice to have someone that was an idiot. I think he will be missed, but I dont see him going to take that over for the Islanders for example, they have draft just fine.
- Archaic - Symba007
Prior to that, the drafting was so bad it was completely off the idiot scale, and on the 'gob-smackingly daft bastard' scale. So yes, we were all pining for an upgrade to idiot. |

Looks like Tavares is going to have to shave those sideburns;

"Arthur Staple of the Athletic reported Monday that Lamoriello met with impending unrestricted free agent and Islanders captain last week. The 27-year-old Mississauga, Ont. native hits the open market on July 1 and meeting with Lamoriello is a clear signal of the Islanders' intent to retain their star."

like I said earlier the 2015 Draft looks ok overall. but again that was the draft where Dubas/Hunter ran it.
How much each person had a say in the picks we dont know. But I am less optimistic about the 16/17 draft that were mostly hunter? - senstroll
Yeah i'd agree there. Hunter definitely seems more like an Old school hockey guy. The kinda Biggs, Gauthier, big bodied type players. |

And there's no real way to rank draft success: Number of NHL games? All of those have every bit to do with a player being a "coaches guy" or given the right opportunity (ahem, VGK). |

i feel like the leafs should be walking away from the 2016 and 2015 drafts with minimum 3 regular nhler's each. less than that is garbage, more is great.
i think we need to find at least 2 from the 2017 draft.
too early to make any calls. |

I am also willing to change my opinion if one of the huge Dmen they picked turned into a Paryenko type or something.
just a quick look and holy F there is a lot of giant dmen pick the last 2 drafts.
all these guys are 6'4" or taller
