So wait. Did Hunter actually think he had a shot at being the GM? Is that why he stayed? Even though for the last 3 years, they've been grooming Dubas to be GM? |

it was idiotic to think Tavares could come to Toronto given the cap and his salary being north of 10 mil per year.
Tavares is a non rumour to anyone who keeps salaries in mind. - Buggy166
Well then, Tavares better retire cause nobody can afford him. |

I do think Mark Hunter is decent at drafting, but not the best ever. The Leafs have just been so bad at drafting in the past it was nice to have someone that was an idiot. I think he will be missed, but I dont see him going to take that over for the Islanders for example, they have draft just fine. - Archaic

Truthfully, i dont think the GM would be that big a deal for Tavares. Lou going there could as their management sucks, but hell be looking at teams that have a chance moving forward with him, along with the situation, not the GM. - Archaic
For sure.. If Tavares was already dead-set on testing free agency, I don't think Lou coming in, stops that.. Could pull a Stamkos and after everything, still sign with the Islanders, but I wouldn't credit Lou for that, that would be Tavares thinking that staying with the Islanders is best for his career.
I don't think this changes his mind; |

Matthews (no-brainer), Marner, (good pick, but it was either him or Hanifin and both are going to be good for a long time) Liljegren(was ranked 3rd overall for the longest time, and fell to the Leafs. A no brainer at #17). Drafted Dermott, but they traded a shot at Konecny to get Dermott.
Time will tell on the rest, but we'll see how, or if Keaton Middleton, Eemeli Rasanen pan out. - PatC80
To be fair, Bracco, Timashov, Grundstrom, Brooks, Woll and Korshkov look like they can/will make the show in future. |

(frank) me, he's thick as poop then. I feel bad for him that he was the only one in the organization believing in himself. |

Maybe these are his thoughts.
1. He just got paid far more than he would elsewhere as an Assistant. Way more than he did with the Knights.
2. He has everybody in the media crying foul and talking him up as some huge amazing scouting wizard and manager.
3. Takes some time off to find a team looking for a GM position. Maybe even...Seattle? Have to think Calgary/Edmonton/San Jose/Ottawa/St. Louis are precarious. |

His first overall and fourth overall picks look good. My dog could have done the same job.
Outside of those two picks, we have 37 games total at the NHL level. Too early to pass final judgement, but it isn't looking good right now.
Pro scouting has been equally meh.
I'm not as high on Andersen as most here.
Martin was a mistake.
We really don't have much to judge on his pro scouting. |

Unless they fire Snow, bringing in Lou just makes the Islanders more of a poopshow, not less. |

Grundstrom, Dermott, Bracco, and a few others look to be decent picks. Better then the Leafs are used to in the past drafting players like the goat, biggs, and Tlusty....

like I said earlier the 2015 Draft looks ok overall. but again that was the draft where Dubas/Hunter ran it.
How much each person had a say in the picks we dont know. But I am less optimistic about the 16/17 draft that were mostly hunter?

I disagree, he is a very good manager, and will bring them stability. Hell likely fire Snow, and promote Hunter/himself to GM is my thinking. I kinda hope he starts to lose it haha. |

hunter cleared out all the dead weight scouts and hired all new ones. i suspect a lot will quit and follow hunter to his new job.
so, whether warranted or not, we are rebuilding the scouting department. |
