Nylander will NEVER get 92 points is how I thought it should read......anyways...just having fun...not making fun of your grammar.

Hockey will eventually follow baseball. Pay players for what they do now ..not as UFA past thier prime and what they did in the past.

the terms will get shorter, is there a good UFA signing recently thats been long term?

- senstroll

Baseballs different...those guys can play til there 65 yrs old...hockey someones getting injured every other shift...I doubt we start seeing shorter terms. JMO

Pay I guess....I didn't make the comparison.

Not saying it was you...

To put it in perspective, Kessel's first contract after his ELC was a 5 yr deal for $27M.
If Nylander gets the same deal as that, we'd all call that a steal.

Nylander will get around what Pastrnak got imo.

Both are first line wingers on their team, both are young but Pastrnak has produced more than Nylander, even last year before he signed his contract.

It's the closest parrallel you can make.... add inflation to that.... you get close to 7M per year.

It's alot but I think it's fair.

minus the Dumbas factor who is a genius....so Nylander will get 5.8M/Yr long term and shut up about it

which was 8.8% of the cap on the 1st year of his deal.

would be about $7M on an $80M cap today.

I think he should as well.

Nylander's not gonna be like Phil Kessel, cause Kessel got 92 points once. I'm telling you, Leafs fans are just not allowed to have nice things.

While I agree, he's one of the closest comparables in terms of age and production no?

I'm not counting this season for Pastrnak since he already had signed his contract before jumping to being a ppg player. He would have gotten even more today than a year ago.

let's compare apples with apples. What were Pasta's stats before he signed his deal and what % of the cap did it represent?

What about Nylander stats?

Wasn’t in the ball park in Draisaitl, Kuznetsov, Parayko, Thornton, RyJo, Toffoli, Palat, Drouin and just about everyone else in the list...

It's a foolish list.

I guess it's just for fun though, which is fine.

Pastrnak had 70 points last year.. I think he is the closest comparable.. In spite of what people are telling you, Nylander is actually a good player too.

Well, we just watched them both in the playoffs and i'm sure one is better than the other.

It's ok to discuss...if we want nice things ( good d ) and we need to trade for it...we have to trade nice things....sure I'd like to keep Nylander and get a Doughty...but who's dreaming to think that will happen? ( plus it's just a discussion, I don't think Dubas will trade 34/16/29 )

Nylander's showing in the playoffs does hurt his value.

But if he's signing a long term contract, you buy up potential as well. Otherwise he's signing short term and if he performs well, he'll get even more.

similar imo. the aging curve for ball players is not much different. there are always outliers but its a big risk signing player long past age 30.

same with injuries.

I believe there was already discussion the owners would want 5 year contracts similar to the NBA. Mostly to protect themselves.

I'm all for this. More player movement.

Pastrnak also plays with 2 10 top players...like 2 players who are really (frank)ing good.
He has 2 Auston Mathews on his line

Or, wait for this, we trade him for an even better defenseman.

its a projection model nothing is 100% accurate...you can always tweak things.
2017 also doesnt look like it had terms factored in like 2018. the number will be different is someone signs 3, 5 or 7 years
