you forgot one important detail; Peter Chiarelli is not the GM of the Maple Leafs.

Agree, but Draisatl not a good example. Chiapet/Oilers like to overpay. See 10 goal, 34 point Lucic for $6 million long term

that's true, but peter can only hear half of the story as he has a stanley cup ring in his ear. Would someone tell that guy to put the ring on his finger already. Fukin guy, wins a cup in his first 5 year plan and then thinks he can coast his way through life.

It's pretty bad when you win a cup and then get shat on.
Like what have you done for me lately, although i do think that if they kept Seguin and Hamilton they would have won at least one more cup.

lol wtf. these dont have to be 100% accurate for everyone. If his model gets poop on for being off one ..does he get credit for being less than 1% off on others?

Serious question: do they like to overpay, or just feel it is neccessary because it's Edmonton?

just like the Oilers did with Hall, Hopkins and Eberle.

Then you flounder for a few years, never getting the defense you need. then finally trade the best of the 3 for a first pair dman, trade the 2nd best of the 3 for a mediocre forward. and keep the worst. then you can draft another generational talent.

sound plan.

Wait till you see what Nurse gets this year. RNH plus Klefbom will be getting shipped for bupkis.

the thing is there is noting wrong with paying him 8.5 x 8 years. i mean maybe a tad high at this point..but he is a good player.
you will get the value out of that contract. its a good bet. its just they overpay the fringe players and overpay for intangibles (lucic), russel etc.. then you end up trading Hall and Eberle...just a dumpster fire

i disagree.

the rfa market is artifically low. you need to keep those contracts low so you can afford to overpay ufa's when the time comes.

Why is Nylander being compared to Kessel? Kessel has a career year at the age of 30... Nylander just turned 22, like 3 weeks ago.

Hockey will eventually follow baseball. Pay players for what they do now ..not as UFA past thier prime and what they did in the past.

the terms will get shorter, is there a good UFA signing recently thats been long term?
