Hey if you’re a GM you gotta be prepared for anything even if there is only a very minuscule chance of it happening.
Again I’m not saying I’d expect that to happen in any way, but to say it categorically wouldn’t is just as foolish. There are plenty of examples of players with a great first year that then fell off a cliff.
Nylander had a respectable year so I’m not expecting that but if a downturn were to continue at least you have that option in your pocket. |

In Nylander's case though, he has had back to back 60+ point seasons to start his career.. I don't think he will be falling off any cliffs... |

You think he gets back to back 60 points season without Mathews?
It's not like he's the one who drove the play.

You know, I actually thought he was floating closer to the 50pts. Whoops
Point being, I for some reason thought there was a dip in production by some of the comments, but it seems like maybe a step forward wasn't taken which may have been the expectation. Is that more accurate? |

I thought it was telling that Matthews threw a hissy fit because he wants to play with Marner.
Kinda implies he thinks Marner > Nylander, no? |

As it stands he would either play with Matthews or Kadri, he will score more than 61 points this year if healthy regardless. If he played with JT - he would rake.

I would pay Marner 7 mill long before I'd give that to Nylander.
Plus i'm trading Nylander for Hamilton. |

Yeah but that's not really a knock on Nylander though. |

I guess it's more accurate; It's the reason, we as Leafs fans, can't have nice things.
At 22 years of age, back to back 60+points seasons and people think we should trade him. |

no, of course not.. Just happened to be in the area, the flight from Toronto to Denmark had a stop-over in Arizona. |

If the Leafs had decent defense I wouldn't say trade him, but unfortunately the only way they upgrade is by trading Willie or Mitch and i'm not trading Mitch. |

Depends on the Term and how many UFA years you are buying.
Cap number matters. 7mil on an 80 mil cap it the same as Past. was when he signed.
if its 5 or 6, sure the number can come down a little |

People only think we should trade him because our D is a piece of poop, and you have to give value to get. You're not getting a different maker for Leivo and a 4th |

Description a bit over the top, but Marner is the better set-up guy. Seen perhaps a couple of dozen Matthews interviews, doesn't seem to get overly excited.

You wouldn't even get Josh Leivo if you traded Leivo and a 4th; that's not the point..
Leafs have other assets to trade if a trade is the route you take;
Nylander-Matthews-Marner-Rielly should be untouchables. |

Usually that discussion has involved
1) We sign Tavares ( )
2) We trade him for a young, 1st pairing Dman. and we would have to add, significantly |
