Honestly they already have all the data and scouts ideas on who to take. Hunter is unhappy and doesn't want to be there anymore. Why keep someone around just to sit at a table for optics?! This is why the clause was put in he can't actually take a job till post draft so the Leafs scouting and plans are intact.
It is also pretty fair to Hunter too to allow him to start trying to find some place to land, especially since there are now no GM spots with Fenton signing with Minnesota already. IF Lou fires Snow, then Hunter would be free to interview and look at taking that job. - Roadrunner75
Agree with everything above, except if Lou fires Snow, he will hire his son. |

Its not really.
Its widely accepted that they did have bad drafting.
But they are feeling much better now
- Fakepartofme
sure by Leaf fans who only look at the Leafs. but not if you put any effort into comparing the drafting by all teams.
there is a post i saw on reddit from someone who compared all the teams. you can use different methods..but the Leafs genrally fall in the middle somewhere
https://tifubyjoiningredd...leafs-drafted-since-2000/
As a whole the Leafs drafting doesn’t stand out as one of the best in the league, however, they also haven’t drafted poorly in any round. They rank just above the league average in every area (except the third round) and as a result should finish above the middle of the pack but outside of the top 10 in my final rankings.

exactly, this becomes a factor 3 years after they are drafted, so how could it be a factor in making the draft selection? - BestRapperAlive
Drafted players only have entry level deals if they sign one, if they don't sign one they go back into the draft after 2 years. |

Yeah there is that. Though does Lou grab Hunter for what 3-5 years and put his son in as Asst. GM?
I think it is going to come back to haunt Hunter a bit here cause there really is no place to go for a GM spot so it literally is a lateral move for scouting?! Kinda crazy! |

Nucks were bad a drafting and keeping picks
The most important takeaway is this: Between 2000 and 2012 Vancouver holds the record for both fewest draft picks and lowest success rate making them one of the worst drafting teams of the 21st century.

Top 5 picks imo is hard to give a ton of credit for.
But of course thats a good pick - senstroll
Have to disagree with this:
Depends on the draft: here are the top ten in 2014 (3 stinkers in top five)
1 Ekblad (D)
2 Sam Reinhart (C)
3 Leon Draisaitl (C)
4 Sam Bennett (C)
5 Michael Dal Colle (LW)
6 Jake Virtanen (RW)
7 Haydn Fleury (D)
8 William Nylander (C/RW)
9 Nikolaj Ehlers (LW)
10 Nick Ritchie (LW)

I think he goes back to the Knights; Why wouldn't he stay on until after the draft; This whole effective immediate thing has to be of his own creation. the guy was angry he didn't get picked. |

He had a good second half and that's it really.
And that was garbage time for the Sabres, seeing as how they were eliminated from playoff contention in November. |

doesn't have to be; he's improved in each of the last 3 seasons. (42 points, 47 points, 50 points).. the Virtanen pick... |

Do you think they ask each potential draftee if they're willing to take a discount relative to their peers? This is not making sense to me - BestRapperAlive

Yeah, Reinhart is turning out pretty decent.
These guys are still young, even Bennett could turn it around imo. |

True about Reinhart, but at pick number 2 can't be considered a good pick - there were at 6 or 7 much better available at that point. Virtanen - looked ok this year, jury is out on him, not a good pick at #6

the Habs could use a center, Bennett is a center; Which highly-rated D prospect would you trade for him? |

Sorry, we like to keep those to trade for wingers that we will play at the centre position. Can't make that trade. |

I think Bouchard should go first on defenseman, except Dahlin of course.
But that's just me. |
