Leafs got swindled and had to take Kadri

Not a big fan of Burke, but that was without a doubt a grade A classic.

Its pretty accurate. Their drafting was horrible.

I'm hearing Carlton is currently unhappy with sharing goaltending duties with Duke the Dog at Timbits hockey games during intermissions at the ACC...
- Atomic Wedgie

carlton has been responsible for all the crappy intermission ideas. duke the dog has brought in all the new and fresh ideas.

time to give duke the reigns.

I don't think I like what's happening. 2 experienced members of the management team leaving at a crucial time. Decisions made this summer will impact the team for years

Nah. That never resulted in a championship for oakland
- Fakepartofme

Just win baby!

But yeah.. the methods have kept Oakland competitive for a lot of seasons while being last in payroll.

Jays have a 120mil payroll and Oakland 55

Leafs can now do both

the bigger problem was trading away too many draft picks.

So wait. Did Hunter actually think he had a shot at being the GM? Is that why he stayed? Even though for the last 3 years, they've been grooming Dubas to be GM?
- walshyleafsfan

ya... I don't get this either... it did seem pretty obvious that the plan was to groom Dubas and roll out LouLams - which obviously happened.

what I'm concerned about, is since the above would seem to be logically predictable... did Shanahan include a contingency for replacing Hunter when he promoted Dubas. Dubas' promotion seemed like a foregone conclusion... so therefore assuming Hunter wouldn't be happy would also be a foregone conclusion OR at least very likely.

I don't like that they aren't including Hunter in the 2018 draft handling.. that would have been a classy move in my opinion. If they don't have a replacement for Hunter announced fairly soon ... then its likely Shanahan thought he'd be able to keep Hunter.

we'll see.

I like the suggestion of trading all the picks now because Hunter's gone. That would send a great message to the rest of the scouting staff!

trading the picks or the players you drafted too early is a very different thing.

simple solution... cage match during the first pre-season game at the ACC.

officiated by Tiger Williams.

Please explain.

How has he done a good job?

Please cite specific examples of players we are seeing come through.

Thanks

- Atomic Wedgie

MARNER!

True there were other very good players available. Luckily, Leafs did not end up with Lawson Crouse who was rated higher than Marner by central scouting.

A couple of points about how good this pick is.

There two players at the top category, one is making 12.5 million, the other $10 million.

Look at Eichel 177 points in 209 games - good for .847 points per game and he is also -54 - good for -.258 per game.

Now Marner 130 points in 159 games - good for .818 points per game and he is -1 good for -.00629 per game

Add the facts that Eichel played way more minutes, and on the top line always, Marner at $6 to $6.5 million a year looks like a mighty good pick.

its hilarious to look at.

If Detroit didnt hit on Datsyuk and Zetterberg the 95, 96, 97, 98 and 99 drafts might be the worst in history for 1 team over 5 years

It was the 4th overall pick, and at this point, any pick in the top 10 (excluding Strome) would have been equally good.

Sorry, Hunter doesn't get credit when the guy he took at #4 (in an incredibly strong draft) turns out well.

You are drafting an asset, Salary relative to production largely defines the value of the asset.

Do you think they ask each potential draftee if they're willing to take a discount relative to their peers? This is not making sense to me

Really? Nobody saw this coming?
First thing Shanaplan did was trade away one or the best players in the league citing culture change.
When the could have traded the other 3 so called team leaders and got more back than the table scraps they got for Kessel.
And now 2 of the other 3 are walking for nothing.

But do the A's have a DH that can throw a hitless inning?

Ugh, I was at that game on Sunday. It was bad.
