Lou is there to infiltrate the Isles on behalf of the Leafs; Don't be surprised when the Leafs get the #11 and #12 pick for the rights to Bozak and JvR, and JT signs with us for less than market value.

I love how every Maple Leaf Organizational change takes the headlines on all the sports sites.

I also love how people on here are saying Hunter sucks. The guy has done a good job. After decades of horrid drafting we are finally seeing players come through... but ya, Hunter sucks and is the suckiest suck whoever sucked....

Hunter was good, so was Lou - two good hockey guys. I think it was obvious that Shanny had to make a choice once he decided Lou was done. Have to trust he made the right choice - he's done ok so far.

sucks losing Lou and Hunter, but I think Shanahan knows what he is doing.

We can do this all day with every GM and every team.

It happens.

- Aaron_85

Not quite like that. The Leafs made a pick way out of left field there, and it is not like DeBrincat was a secret unearthed talent.

I guess the final verdict isn't out on the Korshkov deal, but right now it smells like a management group that thought they were way more clever than they were.

This exactly and honestly the plan was Lou mentoring Dubas to take over in 3 years so they just stuck to the plan. I don't have any issues there with that one. It does suck to lose Hunter BUT if he really wants to move beyond scouting to GM then he had to move and would have at some point here.

Both worked hard and did well for moving the team forward, but it is time to turn the corner and lets see what happens.

Interesting to see if Ron Francis does come in. I don't think he did a bad job with Carolina, maybe a bit too safe but could be a good hockey guy coming back in. And have to think Dubas also likely has a finger on the pulse of guys waiting in the wings for scouting etc who can all do the job too so might be right out of left field like him coming to the Leafs as well.

probably also true.

I Remember a lot of rankings had DeBrincat around 30th.
but he was too small. but his production was a pretty good indication he would score at the NHL level. Even if he is small and you draft him..he would be a pretty good trade chip after scoring almost 30 goals.

i suspect with Dubas. they will be more likley to draft a DeBrincat and not a 6'5" d man who scores 2 goals

Be interesting to see if Korshkov gets Kozun's spot on second line and is pushed more. Seems to be playing well though over there, and only 21 so plenty of time to still fill out that 6'4 frame. Have to hope he pans out but write up on him sounded at least promising.

the bolded is not really accurate imo.
the Leafs have been pretty average overall at producing NHL players from their picks. We dont anything to show they are now better under Hunter. Besides just having more picks total in 3 drafts

It did seem like there was a chance he was going to develop into something.

There is also a chance he never makes it to N.A. to play.

Yeah true there and guess that is the real concern. I think him staying there, making more money in the KHL too, is ok so long as he gets pushed and develops more. IF they give him Kozun's spot and push the kid might be better for development then being on a stacked Marlies team. At some point though have to have him over here and see what he can do in the NA game though.

This sorta reminds me of the whole Pogge or Rassk issue we had years back. Wondering if Rassk was going to be able to handle the NA game coming over.

Least there is potential for the kid though.

I doubt that for last year. Their defense was very bad on top of exceptionally bad goaltending.

Meh

Victor Carneiro. Write that one down...

KD mentioned him in his opening remarks at the intro presser. Director of Player personnel for the Greyhounds currently. Coincidentally got his start with the pre-Hunter London Knights in the late 90's.

I agree.

In the end, it seems inevitable that no matter who was named GM, we were losing the other guy. Which sucks.

Big off season ahead and the leafs need a new head scout, a asst gm and an advisor for the geek.

Agree on Hunter, the word is he had no problem working under Lou, he had to be butthurt losing the GM gig to a younger less experienced guy - doubt very much he wanted to be working under Dubas. I heard that Hunter can only officially work elsewhere when Leafs say it is ok (sounds like after the draft) - but who knows. As far as Francis goes - I think he gets hired as the new assistant GM. He might give some insight as to getting a d-man from Carolina.

Please explain.

How has he done a good job?

Please cite specific examples of players we are seeing come through.

Thanks

I'm hearing Carlton is currently unhappy with sharing goaltending duties with Duke the Dog at Timbits hockey games during intermissions at the ACC...
