“I believe this: Last week they met on Wednesday in New York, and I do think it was a good meeting,” indicated NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman during a Wednesday afternoon TV appearance on NHL Network. “I think one of the reasons the New York Islanders went to this is because – and this is my opinion – they believed that John Tavares was leaning toward leaving. And so they said, ‘Okay, we’ve got to make a change and we’ve got to try something new.’

“And I think they’re back in the game. I’m not guaranteeing anything, but I think they’re back in the game. And I do believe the press is on from the Islanders to try and get this closed. I don’t know if it will happen, but I think they’re making a real serious effort. I think they’re pushing hard.

I found this interesting.

“One thing I am curious about is does Scott Stevens make an appearance here. Just in the sense that the Islanders’ biggest issues last year were defensive. Scott Stevens is a guy with a long history with Lou Lamoriello, a long commitment to defensive hockey – that’s something I wonder if that’s going to be a part of all of this.”

As far as I’m concerned Lou can replace the whole coaching staff.

Edit: Scott Stevens would be a welcome addition for sure IMM

I'm with you. I just hadn't thought about the Stevens connection.
Hell yeah. And bring Marty with you too, Lou.

No defense in keeping Weight and his 10 year high GA, and worst in the league PK.

Yeah someone brought that up a day or two ago (may have been Friedman then, too) also. It's an interesting thought. I, admittedly, don't really know much about Stevens as a coach...but his playing career is certainly impressive.

You mean the don't block any shots and just let them score defense?

Yes the "defense optional, we'll score 5 or more goals to win" game plan.

Oh yeah but he needs to be careful and keep it together. I know a lot on here don’t like him but he has been very effective.

Edit: Wilson can play on my team anytime, he just kicked the piss out of Colburn

There is no question he is effective. That makes me hate that POS even more.
