Clearly theres some truth to this contract Wang gave Snow. I do not believe nor do i have any doubt Snow will have a negative impact in this situation. I’m fully confident that we are in a new era, one that will breed success here.

I wish I could feel that way but I won't until he's gone. Hopefully he will be. I think its hysterical that a lot of this thread were saying the same, exact, thing that im saying now. If Snow stays in any capacity when Lou comes on its a complete miss by ownership. Where are those people now? . Hysterical

I don’t profess to know what’s going on I’m only going off what was said publicly yesterday by Lamoriello. I know it’s been a long few decades but i for one think this is the best news the isles have had since winning cups. I refuse to let the battered wife syndrome ruin this happy moment for me.

Of course it's great news. I'm not saying otherwise but I'm saying how great it is may be debateable.

I think it's incredible how now three people are completely missing my point. Bunch of (frank)ing idiots

Maybe you're the (frank)ing idiot, if snow stays on as gm and wants to say sign a 7 dman for 5 years lou can say no so moronic ideas are nixed by lou. Very hard to comprehend I know

L&M obviously see a problem with Garth or they would not have brought in Lou. Only reason Garth stays on is because it's a huge hit if he gets fired. I'm not worried about Garth at all.

To also add to the positivity, there’s no way Lou takes that job if it wasn’t a good situation for him. He’s not gonna go out a loser. There’s a ton of talent on the island that with the right person (Lou) the isles can be a legit cup contender in the near future. A rebuild is not necessary. I said 5 years ago on here Garth was a hoarder and didn’t have what it took to finish the painting. Welp, now they do...

I agree it might take some creativity by Lou to lose a few of those bad contracts but he has some nice assets he can move. Gonna be a fun couple of months ahead of us

You have to make moves or the roster gets stale and you also have to be willing to make coaching changes. Garth was unable or unwilling to make the needed changes. I think it was all about having his people around him and protecting the Country Club. That's over with now with Lou.

When he was on WFAN yesterday they were reminiscing about some of his draft picks. He built a powerhouse Devil team, starting from the Goalie on out.......Brodeur, Niedermeyer etc. Very exciting times for us isles fans......long awaited too

“To me, the most fascinating thing about all of this is this whole thing with Tavares. Some of the other teams – when we reported the other day that they’d met, and I sent out a note today that had more details on it – there were some other GMs who reached out like, ‘Are you freaking kidding me?’ They are mad. Especially some of the other teams that really wanted to chase Tavares. They are so angry. They’re like, ‘There’s no other guy in the world who would get away with this.’ “

“But some people just laugh and they know, we’ve always known there’s a set of rules for Lou Lamoriello, and there’s a set of rules for everybody else,” chuckled Friedman. “I asked the league, I said is there a problem here, and I was told no. But I’ll tell you, some of those other teams are just going nuts.

I don't understand what the issue is...the other teams are mad because the Isles' new guy talked to the franchise player they're trying to re-sign?

Because he was technically still an "advisor" for the Leafs, whatever the hell that means, when he met with Tavares. The NHL had no problem with it so I'm not sure why anyone else would.

Boo (frank)ing hoo, like the Islanders get so much preferential treatment all the time

Maybe that's the thing...it's such a rare thing that I can't even comprehend it when we get a break from the league.

If it makes those other guys feel better, they can pretend the meeting happened today instead of a week ago or whatever...and it probably changes exactly nothing.

Yeah I was just curious, figured the chances of their being another kid around that age with the last name Boulton playing travel hockey on Long Island with a guy who looks like Eric watching was pretty slim

I wouldn't even consider this the Islanders getting "a break". I mean you'd be nitpicking over a matter of days from Lou being a "Senior Advisor" to the Leafs and Lou being hired as the PoHO for the Islanders. Anyone who has a real bone to pick with that needs a Xanax prescription

Lou is not perfect. That contract he gave Matt Martin proved to be an albatross. Martin was a healthy scratch for much of this season. Also, Lou got (frank)ed by Kovalchuk when the latter bolted for the KHL after Lou gave up significant assets to bring him to New Jersey.

So while Lou may not have been my first choice as the Isles' PoHO, he is still a huge improvement over the status quo. He brings instant credibility to the Islanders, something they haven't had since the days of Bill Torrey and Al Arbour. I am more excited for this offseason than I have been in decades.

Kudos to Malkin and Ledecky. They have recognized that having Lou oversee Garth and Doug makes a lot more sense than doing it themselves.

In Capt's defense, Friedman is basically saying the same thing...

“Well, I can tell you this – I think the one thing is Lou and Garth Snow are very tight,” noted NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman during a Tuesday afternoon radio hit on Vancouver’s Sportsnet 650. “Apparently they get along really well. Garth Snow has a contract there – nobody really knows what it is, but everybody knows there’s a big poison pill in it if he gets let go. So I think that he will probably be part of the organization in some way.

He probably doesn't know any more than we do, and obviously Lou's not coming here to take a back seat to Garth friggin Snow. If Snow holds on to some title purely for contract reasons, I can live with that (I'd still rather he be fired from a cannon into the Atlantic). But, yeah, I'm hoping this stuff about him and Lou being "very tight" doesn't translate to Snow and his college buddies still kicking around in any kind of meaningful roles. Just seeing his smug face at the draft table again would probably be enough to make me choke back some bile.

The good news is, even in the worst case scenario if Snow is in some sort of decision-making role, we know Lou wouldn't sit on his hands for long if the ship doesn't immediately get on course, no matter how tight he supposedly is with Snow.
