If we all look back to the draft before knowing how many players would have these crazy years, there were really only a few steals: Theodore, Neal, Fleury, Schmidt, Marchessault and you can even throw Tuch in there for good measure.

While those players were steals, they aren't players you think, "Hmmm, I can totally build a championship team around these guys."

Vegas had to make good decisions and they did. Some was probably luck and some was having a good GM/Organization to build.

In 2000, teams were allowed to protect 15 players. 9 forwards, 5 defensemen, 1 goalie. In 2017 teams were allowed to protect 8. F-ing 8 players. Oh yeah. And there were 2 teams picking from what scraps were left. Vegas had their pick of a top 6 forward or top 4 defensemen off EVERY NHL TEAM. Teams were surrendering draft picks because they couldn’t afford to lose the quality players they were endangered of losing. This whole process was a goddamn joke

Until you realize that Vegas has like 3 times the Canadian players than American players. In fact odds are it'll be Tampa vs Vegas. Look at that chart and what do you notice about Vegas and Tampa? I'll give you 3 guesses but you should only need one. Hope those facts don't ruin your orgasm.

As well all elc pros of two years or less and all unsigned draftees were automatically protected.

Not to mention nobody takes into account they really are the first expansion team in the salary cap era which did play a factor in getting a player like Flower for goaltender. Yup that was all planned right?!

Or lets argue about fair when Florida/Anaheim came in and there was a Phase 2 on the draft allowing SJ/OTT/Tampa to take a couple players they drafted off them from the expansion draft.

Not sure of the money values, but someone will know. I think it's the most expensive expansion team to date as well (I may be wrong on that). If I'm spending half a bill on a team I want it winning more than losing, & I don't want other teams scraps & garbage. I can remember people saying Vegas left talent off their selections & didn't pick the best available?? No one ever problem t them up as a talented group that had any chance of getting to where they are.

As for Gallant, I'd say his Florida team had more talent than his Vegas team. So he has done an incredible job.
