The ROR "bashing" is getting overblown.

There are things that many posters like about his game and many things the same posters don't like.

Take for example me:

I like that he can play big minutes. I like that he is a consistent 60 point player. I do like that he takes every key faceoff.

I don't like his contract. I don't like certain qualities about his leadership or lack there of.

I like that he has a ton of value around the league.

I like that any deal that involves him should be an overpayment (or at least a good haul) and the Sabres should win out on the trade.

This isn't a post to bash ROR, this is a post that can look at the make up of the team currently, can look at the system the head coach wants to play, and can look at who on the roster would fetch the most in a return that may or may not be part of the long term plans of the GM.

Obviously Jack is in the long term plans.

By process of elimination ROR is the one that I would want to see dealt FOR THE RIGHT DEAL.

I don't understand why it's so hard for people to understand this.

Because they just assume you can high end talent without giving something up. That any problem we bring up regarding ROR is just "fancy stats being stupid" or "you don't understand powerplays" or some other bullpoop.

He.Can.Waive.It if he so chooses. Why would he want to stay in Carolina ? Give me 3 reasons why anyone would want to play in Carolina over anywhere else ?

Knights won't beat the Bolts...will be lucky to go six games...
they might have a chance against the Caps but I think WSH pulls it out

- Michael Pachla

I’m guessing u probably thought Winnipeg would beat them too though
I know i did

They want to see more from McCabe and they like him.
- SABRES 89

I don’t mind McCabe either. We just seem to have an abundance of LHD on the team at the moment. We need to give to get.

That’s not even remotely close to true
Keep making stuff up though i guess

Especially about the fancy stats...
which say that O’Reilly is a top25 Center

That would be nice. I doubt he would cost that much. Good for 30-35 points and can dish the puck well.

give me your set of moves to make the team better that doesn't include signing carlson/tavares or trading risto/reinhart/ror or grubauer for basically nothing.

Funny thing is, I wasn't even referencing you in that post. You're not the only staunch ROR defender here.

1) owner with deep pockets

2) Guaranteed to play with Eichel.

3) Good hockey market

4) Familiarity with ROR from past World Championships

Hagelin scores 10 goals & costs 4mil
Why on earth would u want to bring that here?

Not that he’s terrible or anything,
but it’s also not like HE was responsible for the Pens winning

He’s their Pouliot, but WAY overpaid

If we do trade for him,
it’s doing Pitt a big favor with the Cap
So we better get a discount on another player with him
Like when we took Pommer & got a deal on Scandella

This should be stated as a rhetorical instead of a cynical question. There's so many reasons why a guy would choose to go somewhere. Not going to bother listing any of them, because we all can probably come up with a bunch. But I would say the allure of playing with an elite center to boost your career would be a good start.

eh, maybe not that nice. How many are actually available? and is our offer competitive?

Id love Hoffman here, but I don't want to pay extra for a 1 dimensional scorer

Skinner is a no go

Perry is a no go

There's a bit of a drop off after those guys, that's probably where you want to aim

- Sabresfan-365

Maybe. I have no idea who is available. My plan of action would be to try something like that in conjunction with the SJS pick, and if no one bites, play out the year and keep drafting/developing players, and sign some more cheap FAs.

I do like Gerbe's AZ offer. Anything involving moving 90, 23 or 55 for picks and prospects will absolutely kill my ability to watch this season.

I don't think we're that far away from at least respectability- we lost a lot of 1 goal games. To blow up it up now would be folly.

So sure, ROR for the right player, but not ROR for #11 and a prospect. That said, I think it's smarter to use other assets to bring ROR help, instead of moving him

1) we're not the only team with an owner who has money

2) we're not the only team with a #1C

3) The hockey market went to poop in the past season but even if it's good, it's not the only one

4) familiarity in a world championship does not a selling point make, especially since you just said he'd play with eichel

5) I don't know too many players who will waive a full no move clause to go to buffalo right after they finished 31st

I'd say in Skinner's case it's where he wants to sign/live long term. Im not trying to bash the city, but if offers come in from major cities that are far closer to contending, it's not even a tough choice.

You’re 100% correct. We aren’t the only team. But if we have an offer that makes sense to carolina he could very well waive if he sees fit.

You should know by now that that's not the only reason players choose a location. Yes, they need to believe in the vision of a team, long term. I believe the Sabres have that vision with Botts/Housley now. And I think that could be attractive, along with the chance to play with Eichel and Dahlin.

Maroon on the Devils and the Ducks still had a positive possession rate. This team severely lacks possession drivers. He can be one of them for a reasonable salary. He wouldn't be that much for a guy who can score you 35-40 points a season.
- TheSabresTaco

He wants 4m he is looking for his payday and I don’t want to be the team that’s stuck with a David Clarkson , Beleskey

I just don't think we're in that position quite yet. As has been mentioned plenty times before, winning fixes a lot of that.

I think his best bet is to wait for the right player to become available (right as in right price). Maybe its someone who hasn't quite hit his potential yet, maybe a cap casualty.
