I've been sitting on this thought for a while but now that the season is done here goes...

I don't think this team needs what Ehlers brings to the game. He could be in play this summer to free up cap space and trade up in a different area.

I think Vegas is the best team in hockey and Gallant has proven himself to be an excellent coach and the right fit for them this year.

We knew they would be getting a team full of second line players with upside. In the 30 players they picked they found some 1st line players such as Marchessault, Karlson, Schmidt, Fleury and some 1b players such as Neal, McNabb, Tuch. The team is full of legitimate #4-9 forwards (in addition to some of the stars singled out).

They are so fast all over the ice that even the best chances we had were made under pressure. almost no break-aways or odd-man rushes were surrendered (or earned by Jets), Fleury's best saves were on plays where we were making something happen while pressured or flailing at bouncing pucks. Scheifle didn't have time to really pick a spot on the big saves in game 3, Laine's chance on PP in game 4 where he rushed a loose puck in front of Fleury while Fleury dove forward at it was pressured - if he had time he would have made a lateral move.

Vegas is good and has the makings of a dynasty.

I agree 2.0 with everything you said here except your last line. Vegas is fast, tenacious, drank Gallants game plan koolaid and adhered to it, and btw, Vegas paid $550 mill (which went to the NHL and the owners) so they paid for their team, they should get decent players to pick.

But, I think their bubble will burst, just maybe not this year. The Flower has done so well to prove himself this year, and in these playoffs but it was short while ago that the Flower lost the net to Murray, a younger, cheaper goalie. To sustain these stats will be difficult in the future imop as other teams will adjust for speed. LA and SJ will look at this as the new success model and will adjust, plus Vegas has draft picks to develop so although I am still smarting losing to LV, I think the difference was small and Fleury was one of the factors.

I am actually putting my $ on LV to win it all this year but sustainability will have to be proven next year because at some point, this team will come back down to earth.

Maybe, I mean I once floated the idea of trading Laine to get the top pick for this year. Thankfully, no one skewered me too bad, LOL! That was at a point in the regular season when his skating and puck battle was just god awful. But, right after that, he took off again.

Interesting statement, but I think the "speed" thing is the new NHL. Look at Vegas? Look at SJ and LA how slow and old they are. Vegas took care of them with ease. I think a lot of the teams will be looking to model Vegas on the speed game, imop.

Terrible idea. Speed and skill is always needed. Cost controlled, still improving, speed and skill guys are needed even more. We’ll clear up 15mil just by getting rid of Myers, Mason, and Kulikov. That’s along with another 3.5~ coming off from Toby.

There is lots of speed already in the Jets lineup and more in the pipeline. If letting go of Ehlers means abilitly to sign Stasny (or Trouba) + return for Ehlers are we not going in the right direction? Finding a player for Ehlers to play with has been difficult and he is the kind of asset other organizations will covet and give quality return for.

He may continue to be a thirty goal scorer for a few years but by trading him we will make more ice time for players like Roslovic, Appleton, Vesaleinen, Lemieux, (Stasny/Trouba), and most of the goals will be quickly replaced. We should gain better overall vision and defensive awareness in the process.

There are few other Jet assets that Jets could part with and have value to other teams that would bring return. (not an inclusive list)

Wheeler, Scheifle, Connor, Laine, Morrissey, Trouba, Niku, Buff, & (probably Lowry) are players Jets won't move in almost any circumstance. Roslovic's play is emerging and has earned a further look at for belonging in this group. Ehlers has a reputation with this core but in my opinion brings less for this team than the others.

Little, Kulikov, Myers, Perreault all have contracts that are too big to move easily except in a hockey deal (Chevy unlikely to move them) and they are still valuable assets to the team.

Armia, Hendricks, Mathias, Dano, Copp, Tanev, FA's - All teams are looking for quality people/players to fill bottom 6 of linup. If they like Winnipeg keep them, we will recover just fine if a few choose to go another direction.
