Maybe, I mean I once floated the idea of trading Laine to get the top pick for this year. Thankfully, no one skewered me too bad, LOL! That was at a point in the regular season when his skating and puck battle was just god awful. But, right after that, he took off again.
Interesting statement, but I think the "speed" thing is the new NHL. Look at Vegas? Look at SJ and LA how slow and old they are. Vegas took care of them with ease. I think a lot of the teams will be looking to model Vegas on the speed game, imop.

There is lots of speed already in the Jets lineup and more in the pipeline. If letting go of Ehlers means abilitly to sign Stasny (or Trouba) + return for Ehlers are we not going in the right direction? Finding a player for Ehlers to play with has been difficult and he is the kind of asset other organizations will covet and give quality return for.
He may continue to be a thirty goal scorer for a few years but by trading him we will make more ice time for players like Roslovic, Appleton, Vesaleinen, Lemieux, (Stasny/Trouba), and most of the goals will be quickly replaced. We should gain better overall vision and defensive awareness in the process.
There are few other Jet assets that Jets could part with and have value to other teams that would bring return. (not an inclusive list)
Wheeler, Scheifle, Connor, Laine, Morrissey, Trouba, Niku, Buff, & (probably Lowry) are players Jets won't move in almost any circumstance. Roslovic's play is emerging and has earned a further look at for belonging in this group. Ehlers has a reputation with this core but in my opinion brings less for this team than the others.
Little, Kulikov, Myers, Perreault all have contracts that are too big to move easily except in a hockey deal (Chevy unlikely to move them) and they are still valuable assets to the team.
Armia, Hendricks, Mathias, Dano, Copp, Tanev, FA's - All teams are looking for quality people/players to fill bottom 6 of linup. If they like Winnipeg keep them, we will recover just fine if a few choose to go another direction.
