Sure. I am especially happy for MAF. He has beaten his inner demons of anxiety and has even taken a leadership role. Good for him!

Hes grown out from under the Crosby Malkin shadows.

Hey Ryan Wilson

Can you give me an article on Reaves Corsi, or Fenwich or CF% 5v5 on that series winning goal?

Don't forget to include his quality of linemates, Bellemare and whoever else he plays with

Thanks

I blame Disco Dan

Fleury went to a cup final with Therien, won a cup with Theriens team. Looked like crap while playing firewagon hockey with the 3rd and 4th lines full of "Grit and Leadership" that hung him out to dry for years

A few bad goals get magnified, Team (and Coach) playoff failures blamed on Fleury

Flower looked great for his short time under Sullivan, but is was clear Murray was Sully's guy and that's ok, Murray won us 2 Cups and I'll take it

3 cups in 10 years, wouldn't change a thing, but it seems a lot of year of careers were wasted under Disco - I hope that loser never gets a job again

Fvck yes. We wasted so much time under Disco (defense is optional) Dan. People still talk about MAF "melting down". I was disappointed Yohe brought it up in his latest Q&A at the Athletic. Goalies will melt down if the 5 skaters in front of him don't give a damn about preventing goals.

Flat out should have been fired after that embarrassing Flyers series.

I also blame Meloche who in retrospect wasn't a good goalie coach. Fleury was drafted 1st because of raw athletic talent but was considered weak developmentally. Soon as they switched to Bales, that talent got coached up. Shouldn't have taken that long.

A million times THIS

That TEAM was so mentally weak. Other teams would shut down and grind out the top 2 lines, and since the bottom 2 lines couldn't score, the top 2 would end up cheating for offense that left Fleury out to dry

Disco couldn't adjust, "Get back to our game BS". Malkin and Crosby end up starting fights, bottom 6 spends their entire shift hemmed in their zone blocking shots. Guy won a cup with a team that had good defensive habits leftover from Therian and rode that resume for 6 more seasons....puke

Crazy how well that bad trade for Vegas worked out. They blocked the Jets from Brassard (who knows, might have worked better there) by taking part of his salary for us. And when they eliminate those same Jets, the throw away player they got in Reaves scores the series clinching goal.

It's very impressive what Vegas has done. How does their D corp line up against ours - or at least the team that was beaten by the Caps?

I wonder if that Jets fan that thanked us for taking Brassard will come in & curse us for trading Reaves to Vegas?

Tomorrow's blog title possibilities;

1. Accidental hero - an ex Penguin GWG for Vegas.
2. Blind squirrel & a nut.....
3. Probabilities at their probability best.....
4. Life SUCKS when a scrub like Reaves can play let alone score in the NHL!!

I can't remember what beat reporter said this, but apparently Dan used to "whip them up into a frenzy" instead of trying to get them to settle down. Not only was his vaunted "system" easy to defeat (trapping and counter attacking), but he virtually did the exact opposite of what the team needed on mental side. Sullivan comes in with his "just play" attitude, and boom.....TWO CUPS.

Somebody else pointed this out the other day.... Out of Dan's last 6 contractual years going forward, he'll be paid to NOT COACH for 4 years.

Kind of has a "destiny" feel to it. They gave Winnipeg zero space for most of that series. And when the Jets would have surges, they couldn't get the puck past MAF. Really impressive.

I think it's really a toss-up if they face Tampa. I think Vegas would stomp the Caps.

Ryan, if I recall correctly those difficulties are based on a full season. So you first have to up Riikola's production to a full NHL season (82 games) and then do it times the difficulty.

Honestly, Brassard started to look good before that groin injury. I've skated with one before and it SUCKS!!!!! He could have been a difference maker for the Jets without that injury.

Yep, happened to me too. I think it would be particularly difficult for a center who has to be particularly mobile and cover so much ice. Sucks.

This. He was starting to find his way and then boom, injury. Moving Reaves was key for obtaining a better piece.

This next part isn't directed toward you...

I'm not saying Reaves might not have made the 4th line a little better. There were times it looked like he was a victim of misuse and while he was acquired via a terrible trade, he should have gotten better looks.

All that said: Reaves wouldn't have moved the needle for the Pens. The ONLY thing he would have helped with is backing off Wilson, but...

- He wouldn't have stopped Wilson from playing good hockey.

- He wouldn't have healed Geno, Phil or Brassard's injury.

- He wouldn't all of a sudden had the Pens playing the team-defense they needed to play.

- He wouldn't have stopped the Pens from pinching too much, playing too deep and overplaying pucks.

So yeah, Reaves would have given the Pens a Wilson-deterrent, but he just wouldn't have moved the needle that much. No reason the Pens should have kept him in lieu of Brassard. Good for Reaves getting a shot at the cup.
