Something to keep your eyes on as a Rangers fan. Brandon Hickey, the CGY pick who was moved to ARZ in the Mike Smith trade apparently won't be signing with ARZ making him a free agent similar to Kevin Hayes/Jimmy Vesey. Hickey was a member of BU for 4 years and the captain

Is he worth signing?

the fact that Quinn made the kid the captain, that's gotta count for something, gotta figure NYR will be in on it

but, the Rangers have a lot of young depth ahead of him on left side of blueline, I love free players though

If we’re going through a 1-2 year rebuild with all the depth on the left side (Hajek Lindgren Gilmour maybe this kid etc) maybe we flip Skjei? The price would have to be right but it would open up the possibility, and that’s not a knock on Brady, like the kid a lot just something to consider.

I wouldn't be surprised to see some of the young LHD guys go in an attempt to move up in the first round (not just moving up from #9)

Unfortunately we'd be selling low. I think it's a possibility though. More of a wait and see how he starts the year.

what the fack is the point of paying for carp if hes just gunna tell you what you can read on twitter from McKenzie
- mrn22

I agree with you, mrn, in that there would be no point in "paying for Carp", IF he would ONLY report what you can find out elsewhere for free.
I had researched, and found out the latest info. Friday night elsewhere, after hearing Elliotte Friedman's late night words, (which I was first unaware of that were on NHL Network), in that "a contract MAY HAVE BEEN offered to Quinn, which came well after multiple earlier reports from Bob McKenzie yesterday evening through just shy of 8:00 pm that Quinn was interviewed by the Rangers, but with nothing believed to be "IMMINENT".
However, if you were a Carp fan as I have been since he was a little no name with a Westchester County, NY newspaper under a different name years ago prior to his well known later positions, then it may pay for you to be a subscriber to "The Athletic", for not only his, but for those writing for all other NHL teams and more.

I’ll also add this: Quinn doesn’t just brush these numbers aside as useless. Recall a conversation with him in 2015 when one of his players wasn’t producing, but Quinn told me he was still generating scoring chances. Kept him in the top-six and he began to score.

Brian Trottier wrote a 78 page thesis on coaching trying to get the job with NYR... was desperate for the job... and got it... I'm ok with some being a little indecisive of a job change and moving his family 2 hours down the road. I'm ok as long as he takes the job when offered.
- jnyfive

Quiunn's indecisiveness was the entire point with my words there. But, no one knew until Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet first reported it late last night on NHL Network, in that the talks were heating up, and a contract "MAY HAVE BEEN" offered. But OFFERED FIRST WHEN? Just on mid to late night yesterday, or even days or weeks earlier, in which now today, the "RUMORS" are he has finally agreed to be their new Head Coach? It appears he will now, but it's NOT YET OFFICIAL, since Gorton won't return from the World Championships in Denmark until Monday. Friedman, McKenzie, Buccigross, Carp, Brooks, and any others with rumors were not present in the same room at the time of the interview, to know anything definitive for sure.
It was Quinn's own words he had first told friends after being interviewed, that he "was staying at B.U.", as was confirmed about the start of May. Plus it was his words said in the past in stating that, it would take "SOMETHING SPECIAL" to get him away from now "HAVING THE BEST JOB IN HOCKEY". If an original six team's, head coaching position in NY isn't "something special" ENOUGH for him to decide immediately to accept their offer, than that is being indecisive, or possibly even having some fear of making the jump to the NHL. It is also playing a waiting game with the Rangers.
That's why I mentioned that if Quinn doesn't make a decision very soon, they should wait to see if Todd Reirdon could be an option, if being allowed to talk to him by the Caps after their season ends. If Quinn did not officially accept the job "very soon", he would have been 3rd on my list, after Reirdon and Keefe, prior to the word that Keefe would not be made available a couple days ago.

I didn't mind AV up until this year. Think he completely lost the team and it was his time to go. Hopefully this Quinn guy has a good system thats fun to watch.

- mdw7413

I agree, but with the main breaking point for me was his poor game decisions and player use during the Ottawa series loss, when they blew 3rd Period leads resulting in OT losses. The second one was when he told off Hank that first time this past season. Without a goalie the ranking of Hank, A.V. would not have led the Rangers to their success level from the 2013/14 to 2016/17 season. He had to know that Hank was playing most of this season through a knee injury that he first sustained after last season playing for Sweden. That makes his mocking of Hank be even more unwarranted.

this says a lot about Quinn imo...

(posted by "rabinsurance", HFboards)

"I watched Quinn coach the Monsters in Cleveland for a few years. Here are my observations about him. He is a good educator with young players. He got a very talent-challenged team to the playoffs in 2011. He was very tough on lazy, underachieving players (Ryan Stoa, Patrick Rissmiller). He is very direct when asked a question. Don't know how the press there will react to him, but I think with a younger team, he would work very well. He dealt with 2 big adversities in his HC tenure. His 1st season, Colorado signed AHL vet Darren Haydar to a 2 way contract. He thought he would get a shot at the NHL, Colorado wanted him as a veteran AHL-er. When a younger player was called up early, Haydar pouted like a baby and ripped apart the room. The Avs told Quinn to keep playing Haydar, even though he should have been released. The team was competitive, and they gave the baby a token game in the NHL. Quinn didn't want him back, so he was released from the 2nd year of his deal. His second season, the playoff year, Colorado had signed a Norwegian player named Jonas Holos. He fully expected that he would be able to play for Norway in the WC in May, and was hugely disappointed that he had to stay in Cleveland for the playoffs. This caused huge problems, because the Avs basically said to the player play and shut up. and to Quinn play him no matter what. After the team lost in game 7, Holos skipped the exit interviews (reportedly he had his luggage at the game), and Quinn was furious. The Avs did nothing, except allow him to play in the WC. When Holos didn't make the Avs the next season, Quinn refused to let him come to Cleveland (the clueless Avs organization couldn't figure out why), so he was loaned back to Europe. In each situation, he made the best of a terrible situation to keep the room together. I hope he does well with the Rangers. I can tell you this, I would love to have him back here instead of the idiot Madden who now "coaches" the team."

Yeah. We have a coach!

I have no opinion if its a good or bad signing. I hope he makes it fun for these guys, they buy into a system and they play hard.

You want me to spin it positively or do you "want" the not so great facts?
