Points over 3 year ranks

15-16 when Eichel was a rookie- 44th
16-17- 64th
17-18 - 66th

- sbroads24

176 points in 3 years. 58.6666666 points a season

Call it 59 points

I found a link:

http://www.quanthockey.co...easons-players-stats.html

Ryan O'Reilly is ranked 42nd most points in the last 3 seasons with 3 defensemen out scoring him

He is overpaid

O'Reilly to either Canes, Habs, or Islanders (if they cant resign Tavares).
- Mentalorgasm5

I’m not necessarily talking about even trading ROR or anyone else in particular

Just that we should try to take advantage of some of these GMs that are likely pretty desperate to try n save their jobs

Is this actually a point of contention?
We all know the Buff-a-tax is a real thing
We aren’t Tampa or Pittsburgh

Entering the 2018 season, O'Reilly is tied for the 27th highest cap hit in the NHL. Since arriving in Buffalo he has scored the 28th most points in the league. In today's NHL O'Reilly isnt overpaid.

Your information has been proven wrong.

Just going off of a post from Mental

He posted something about salaries and points that he heard and said he wasn't overpaid in todays NHL.

The stats he heard were incorrect.

O'Reilly, Nylander, add something less valuable than those two.

for

Kane, low draft pick

EDIT: could replace O'Reilly with Ristolainen

I could see Chicago wanting Risto, but you're not getting Kane for him

The Sabres would need to move ROR for blue line help then...looking at you Carolina

Risto Nylander and 32nd overall for Kane

ROR for Faulk

- Stripes77

a 2nd pair D-man(sheltered), a bust, and a 2nd? For one of the best players in the NHL? seems fair to me.

And think about players who missed significant time in one of those three years

Stamkos
Huberdeau

Off the top of my head

There’s 0 proof O’Reilly is a top 50 offensive player, but is paid like one.

You can remove the word essentially because it obviously is.

Why bother having rules about this if they are barely, if ever, enforced?

- kingcong39

could be because they put the rule in 3 years after Hossa signed the contract.

Because it’s fake? We signed O’Reilly to his UFA deal. He was getting it either way. Just a shame it was us

I find it funny you're also missing the post where I said none of this was happening since Kane isn't going anywhere.

And I literally said in that post that I could see Chicago wanting Risto but you're not getting Kane for him

The entire trade I posted was a complete laughable trade offer and since you couldn't pick that up I have to explain it here

UFA deals are “overpaid” for the top guys
True or false

“Buff-a-tax” means we will have to overpay players
Whether it’s to keep them here (O’Reilly) or as UFAs (Okposo)
It also means we won’t get upper tier guys to take discounts to come or stay (E.Kane) like Pittsburgh (Crosby) or Tampa (Stamkos)

It also doesn’t mean there aren’t other team who will “overpay” as well

Buff-a-tax is 100% real
There’s not even a reasonable debate otherwise

Jack didn’t extend at a discount, did he?
Sam isn’t gonna sign a long term deal with a hometown discount

Don’t be naive

The chip on the shoulder theory, while true, is exaggerated. I do think it plays a role in how well Vegas is playing this year. However, the NHL's new expansion rules did make some very good players available. There weren't really any great ones, but a lot of good ones, more than most teams can acquire, draft, and develop in a few years. This is a team full of good players having a great year. I don't see any great players (possibly Fleury, but his past struggles are well documented). The chips on their shoulders had something to do with that, but they were also a team that really had no expectations coming in. Nobody expected them to win. There was really no pressure on them, and Gallant knew that and played that angle brilliantly. We saw this with the 2005-2006 Sabres.

I'm glad Vegas is doing this well. It's good for the league. You build a fanbase by giving it a product worth watching. If Vegas struggled for 3 or 4 years before becoming good, you wouldn't see the reaction you do today. Tradition is built by winning. The real challenge will be to sustain it.

What will be interesting to see is if Vegas can keep a lot of these guys. This season is going to warrant some massive paydays for certain players.

- buffalofan19

Yep.

Fleury was the big get. They were going to get a very good player from Nashville regardless, so I don't necessarily put Neal in there.

As poopty as it is, the massacre really helped them bond as a team, and if Gallant doesn't win the Jack Adams unanimously there's something seriously wrong.

Unfortunately, unless Seattle pays less for their franchise these will be the new guidelines. Aside from GMs wising up and not getting bent over a barrel like McPhee did to them. Remember all the trades that were going to happen because of expansion? And then none actually did because McPhee essentially extorted them. So if they get rid of that either with a rule/nudge from Gary, or a collective "(frank) you" from the other GMs, you might not see some of the deals that happened that got them Theodore, Smith and Marchessault, and Haula, and all those 2nd and 3rd round picks that they probably shouldn't have gotten.

It'll be interesting what happens with contracts, but they'll have ~$47M in cap space going into next year. That's if the cap goes up to around $80M.

Buffalo's overall shooting percentage this season was 7.7 percent. Of the 763 seasons put together by NHL teams since 1990, that ranks 745th.

That's bottom 3% of all seasons since 1990

ROR shot over 10% for his 3 seasons here.
Eichel shot over 10%
Sam has 2 seasons at 13% and one at 9.9

I'd love to keep our 3 good forwards

I have to think the sabres would have tried to acquire fluery if we were trying to win. Lehner would have been exposed and carried possibly still a sabre.

Maybe they claim ullmark, but we have a 2 time Stanley cup winner as our goalie
