I've seen that USA u18s team at least 15 times all season to the u18s. I have some strong reads. I think Wilde is a future bust in the making; his hype I flat out do not get. It frustrates me because he's incredibly gaffe prone and his hockey sense is a mess too, so it's not like he even fits the safe and reliable mold. I do like M. Samuelsson and K'Andre Miller. But after them -- Emberson is another low IQ kid and leached Stastney's minutes -- Stastney was the best d-man on the team, and yet was just a 3rd pair/PK guy all year -- right away I saw it, but his usage never changed all season, and I don't know what the coach saw. Until the u18s, when he was terrific and others were not, and he got more top 4 usage later on to help after a poor start.
I remember you liked David Farrance last year. Me not so much because I just thought he was a good skater but empty otherwise. Stastney is my Farrance. He really interests me as a 5'11 but stocky d-man with wheels. But he has a complete game too. Some team will get a real good NHL potential d-man on the cheap. - Mononoke
Yeah, I did like Farrance a lot in that range.
I agree on Wilde 100%. Him and Merkley are guys I’d have zero interest in unless they slide big time.
I had high hopes for Miller coming into this season since I thought he had some big time upside that would shine through this year but I’ve cooled off on him. Still think he’s a fine pick in the later part of the first.

Canes fans don't like Faulk and would love to trade him. Perspective.
He's a PP specialist and defensive sieve. I'd rather just have Gudas as the better ES player, let alone a top 20 pick and former 1st rounder. I don't get why we need to sell the farm for overrated d-men.
Unless we are trading for DougIE Hamilton or signing someone like de Haan, I'm just not that interested. We have good enough d-men. We have a coach who prefers to play the lesser d-men we have. That's the issue. - Mononoke
Talent and current level of play are two different things. Hakstol did a fine job last season. |

I think the biggest problem is actually the acceptance of every day violence. Look at horror/torture movies and video games that have levels of violence that are just ridiculous. Music that is about nothing except thugs and gangs.

This particular problem with the school shootings. They’re all done by loser mostly white nerds. I think they’re desperate to make their video game a reality.
I’m more conservative but you cannot give me or anyone else a legitimate reason that a citizen needs an assault rifle type of weapon. There is no legitimate reason |

Gotta be honest, I'm not super interested in a D man in the 1st unless it's someone who is very strong in their own end or slides so much that he's clearly BPA. I like Kjell's kid at 19. I think he could be a solid partner for one of our current kids. I just think we have much more of a pressing need at LW both in the NHL & in our system then we do for another offensive defensemen right now.
Either way you can never have too much of either I suppose. |

How the hell a parent doesn't realize that their kid is assembling a small arsenal is beyond my comprehension. I know you can't be on your kids 100% of the time, but I find it impossible to fathom that a parent would have no idea. - jmatchett383

That hasn't been determined afaik. But since pops is clearly an irresponsible gun owner, it wouldn't surprise me that he at least knew about the other stuff. |

Merkley is so bad, even offensively he's just talented, not good. I have like 2 players off my board, even if it makes it harder to get a good 62 name list: him and Wilde. Kupari I've waffled on, but have him pretty low still. I think he's a low IQ guy too. Scratch that: Calen Addison isn't on my list either. His hockey sense seems pretty bad as well. None of those guys scream "NHL" to me.
I don't think Miller has big time upside either. I think his upside is toolsy, physical, solid, will flash offensive skills -- like a slightly higher upside, lower floor Samuelsson. He's still a little raw. I like him, but wouldn't love him at the 19th pick. I think there are similar caliber d-men you could get later, whether that's Samuelsson, Sandin, Tychonick, Zhuravylov (I think he's in this tier), Lundkvist maybe (though smaller and needs skating work), not a big McIsaac fan though he's probably in this range too. Woo too, who I still like as an early 2nd maybe. There are a couple other Junior A d-men I haven't seen like Jacob Bernard-Docker who might be underrated.
Bahl.......I was really intrigued by him at Hlinka and then at u18s. For a huge kid his puck skills aren't bad and he might have some more than the scoring indicates, and he has some smarts too. I didn't watch much Ottawa though. But I went back and watched 1 game (will watch more) after, and his skating stood out more on the small ice as being a tad sluggish. I still think he'll be a fine mid-late 2nd rounder for someone. There's stuff to work with. Don't know if I'd bang the table for him though compared to some others. |

While I agree with your statement, to think this will stop the violence is a fantasy. There are many ways to kill people in masses.
As someone else stated, work has to be done on mental health issues.
And really, just the way people treat each other these days needs to change. If you disagree on something, it's almost like you have to be enemies. Take a good look at our politicians that run this country. Instead of debating, they tear each other to shreds. It's a terrible precedence they set for the rest of the country and the media doesn't help either.
It's a (frank)ing mess that gun control alone isn't going to fix. |
