But that favor was not that big. But they won with a second line and three third lines.
- RafiDRW

A "second line" in name only. That line won the goal share by a margin so great that it made up for any shortcomings that might (and did) occur beneath it. I don't have the exact numbers as Im on my phone, but it's somewhere in the mid-to-high 60s iirc. That Marchand-Bergeron-Pastrnak territory!

Defence by committee. Vegas has gone a long way to proving a stud D is not required to win.

Not when you watch them play their system. All of their d pairs can break a cycle and make a clean exit from the zone. And when I say 6 bottom pair dmen I mean that's what they were when they were picked. A couple have proven they are more than bottom pair guys. But overall no big stars on D.

Miller, Theodore and Schmidt were buried on teams with depth on the blue line. They had the potential to be top four dmen.

Do you mean how they were perceived to start the year? In that case, most of them were but by results, Schmidt and Theodore were both correctly viewed as great 2nd pairing guys by those with sense. Miller and McNabb had a fantastic set of talents that just needed to be aimed in the right direction by a coach. Even Engelland dialed his game in. Sbisa and Merrill are still trash.

And they're why I think our puck moving problem is largely systemic and a result of poor coaching. Prior to this year, Engelland and McNabb were noted as poor puck movers and were just good for breaking cycles and yet now they're executing quick and simple breakouts to a tee.

Systems matter FAR more than people have been willing to admit.

Theodore is a guy we should have targeted a long time ago. There are a few under the radar guys like that we could get for a small price but chia needs to be smart enough to find them.

It's easier to do quick simple breakouts when your forwards are supporting and not prematurely fleeing the dzone...

Schmidt and Theodore are hell of consolation prizes.
They’re literally better than any dmen in the Wings organization.

You see, I’m not likely gonna wanna trade Klefbom for a player that I’m not even sure isn’t fictional.
