Your logical fallacy is "Because other GMs are dumb."

And that's where the entire premise of the last 3 months of pissing in one anothers' ears is just silly. After dedicating two entire paragraphs to explaining why neither of ROR or Scandella are worth keeping in today's game, you and the others in your camp nonetheless insist we can become "flush with assets" by trading them. It simply doesn't work that way.

It's a great luxury to be able to say, after the fact, that a GM made a dumb decision.

We have a GM who reached out and picked Jordan Nolan, Jacob Josefson, Kyle Crisciulo, and Nathan Beaulieu. On the basis of those decisions, can we be sure, looking at it prospectively, that he won't make a dumb decision in sending ROR or Scandella packing?

- Der Kaiser

That crew was skillfully selected to help our finish.

And the start of the season

I think we can, if ROR is moved for useful players. Good NHL players, not picks or prospects. That's the only scenario where a ROR trade makes sense imo. Is there a winger-rich team that would part with a young, productive winger who will not soon be a UFA, though?

Their biggest offseason addition was Benoit Pouliot. I’m not saying that Botterill expected them to finish last. But he was dead set on a top 5 pick from the very beginning.

Where were you earlier? A voice of reason.

But why wouldn't jbotts want the best defenseman in 40 years?

Canes VP of Hockey Ops saying that they may be willing to moving the 2nd overall pick. Imagine if Botts could pull that off.

Before this year, Hanifin had 8 goals in 160 games. Now
he has 18 goals in 240 games. We have enough dmen who don't score already.

Finishing last has an 18.5% chance. Us and Toronto are the only teams in the last 7 years that have finished last and won the lottery. I’m sure Botts wanted Dahlin or Svechnikov. But as us as Sabres fans know, the lottery is a crap shoot.

i didnt say anything about ullmark.
- TheHank

Let Lehner walk and you didn't say anything about Ullmark so you are going to play with 6 and no goalie? Or sign a UFA scrub and that makes us better?

Think please about what you write.

You have no idea what you are talking about. Hanifin is not even close to maturing had 32 points this year and still hasn't filled out. The guy is only going to get stronger and better went from 4 goals to 10 goals and probably will score 15 this year. He has only finished his 3rd full season but stats!!!!!

I'm sure he's gonna get better, I just don't think that player makes sense as a trade for ROR.

Plus, you're subtracting 60 points from a 31st place team. Brilliant.

Shocking!!

Honest question, Mitts comes out and has a 45-50 point year at center, do you still not trade the future 3rd line center for anything short of a 35-40 goal scorer?

I feel like most of the scenarios here are, "we'll trade ROR for a lesser version of Risto and a pick, and we'll trade Risto for a lesser version of ROR and a pick."

"The cap savings will be incredible!'

I've said, a few times now, the kind of player I would trade for him today.

But to answer your question, I need to know if Mitts is at 3C, or is ROR at 1LW?

Especially since he’s signed to a two year deal with the Blue Jackets already.

2C, where he's going to be in a year anyways.

The kid is the real deal. Him being on this team will improve our record by itself.

So Mitts at 2C gets 45-50 points. That pretty much by default means that ROR is at 1LW, because there's 0 chance that if Mitts and ROR are both at center, that ROR plays less than Mitts.

It would obviously benefit ROR enormously if Mitts could take some even-strength minutes away from ROR, so that ROR could get down to maybe 18 minutes, so that his PP and PK prowess can be utilized better.

So to answer your question, the emergence of Mitts as a bonafide point-producing center would help both ROR and the team.

Again, I would trade ROR for a Panarin or Taresenko-type winger, and throw in one of the picks you covet as building blocks (#32 overall).
