Carter's line in LA was like Vanek Roy and Afingenov 12 years ago. Carter flourished when his team had two other lines opponents had to focus on because they were even more dangerous.
- buffalofan19

Really? His career years were in Philadelphia. Stop it.

U compared what Ruhwedel did on the Pens to what Carter did on LA

That’s a joke

Pretty sure your point was that we should trade ROR, bc that will make us better...
right?

So even if u don’t consider how good Carter was after he left... and just look at Carter’s stats when he was in Philly...
had Philly actually been BETTER off?
Not until this year

And it’s 8 years later

IT WAS A BAD TRADE

- jdfitz77

Absolutely.

They wouldn’t even have had Richards the last 4 years.

So they wouldn’t have Simmonds or Schenn, who they just turned into 2 1st rounders.

What are you talking about? Philly was bad when they moved those two. Their time was up

Does anyone else find it alarming that Mike Babcock had to fly to Matthew's and Anderson's houses, separately, to mend the fences with them?

That's insane. A Coach flying to a player's house to explain himself to them. What.

- BeadyEyedDouche

Babcock might be overrated
He won a Cup with a stacked Red Wings team,
And some gold medals with Canada where they were the big favorite every year

Maybe he’s not the Bellicheck of Hockey after all

They sure as poop didn't get better, and LA got 2 cups out of the deal
- jcragcrumple

So that's why Philly should have done? Stay mired in mediocrity and hold onto them out of spite just so LA doesn't get a Cup even though they Philly knew they had no chance?

Maybe if they had continued to build around Carter, they could have gotten there. Instead, they wasted Giroux's prime

Mired in mediocrity! They were a year removed from going to the cup.

No team wins a Stanley Cup with Jeff Carter as its #1 center. None whatsoever.

I never said anything about Richards at all
What does his trade have to do with Carter?
Nothing

Just like Ruhwedel on the Pens is a pi$$poor comparison to what Carter did for LA

Carter, even when on Philly
was MUCH better than Voracek + Couturier for the first SIX YEARS after the trade was made

Sorry, it was year 7 where Coots exploded, not 8

What amazes me, is how people are saying “Did Philly get better after reading them”

While refusing to acknowledge we just finished a spot lower than where we were the year before O’Reilly got here

No Philly team has ever won a cup with Carter. 2 LA teams managed to take on the horrible burden of Carter, and despite his crippling presence, they won it all

I think what happens with the Leafs over the next few years will either swing the convo to where he IS overrated
Or of the Leafs at least become legit contenders,
then his “genius status” will be fully legitimate

They were digressing. They made an improbable run as a 7-seed that saw the top 3 seeds in their conference lose in the first round. Good on them for taking advantage of it, but that team was never built for long term success. People forget how bad the East really was that year (including the Northeast Division Champion Buffalo Sabres).

Didn’t have to trade them both
Just like we have Cap room even if we don’t trade ROR
And other guys can be moved (and are coming off the books after next season) to make even more room

Here's the difference. Carter was Philly's best Center. LA had 2 centers that were better than he was, 3 if you could Richards at the time. Philly tried to build around Carter. LA build with him.

And no team likely wins a Cup with ROR as it’s 1C
But he’s our 2C here, so.....
