If they're not used as secondary players (i.e Kopitar and co don't exist) do they still win two cups?

Just based on production it's pretty close. LA made that trade at the right time, and it paid off for them. Doesn't mean Philly got hosed, they've gotten a lot of value out of Voracek and now Couturier.

- Sabresfan-365

Idk how you can even argue this. Philly got so close with them, then decided they were "problematic," and they win two cups shortly thereafter.

Philly lost, LA has 2 cups

I actually don't have too much of an issue with him. I just don't see how one can look at this roster for the past couple of years and tell me how it would be stupid to trade anybody other than Eichel. Nobody on this team is capable of moving the needle except #15.

Yeah and it’s blatantly (frank)ing obvious

I think you are underselling Voracek. It's at least very close even before couturier's breakout
- Sabresfan-365

I don’t think so
Carter is better all around
And he’s been putting up better stats while playing with lesser talent

Voracek has played with Giroux & Simmonds as his linemates for the most part in Philly
Maybe not since they moved Giroux to the wing, but overall

Point is...
this season, sure, Philly won the trade
But it’s 8 years later & Carter went on to be a very valuable part of 2 Cup wins

Philly LOST that trade
Should’ve never moved Carter

O’Reilly is good enough to be a key peice to a cup team, but not good enough to lead our team in ice time and keep us out of last
- sbroads24

Mcdavid is good enough to lead the league in scoring, but not good enough to get his team in the playoffs

The Sabres let Chad Rubwedel go, and he went on to win a cup.

Awful mistake by the Sabres

To be fair, they were traded 3 years after that run. I don't know if they were a problem or not. I just know that they were asked to do less in LA, and that Voracek was very good for philly.

'

They did get "close" because the stars aligned in the East (though the 3-0 comeback was pretty epic), but the East was pretty weak that year.

Chicago dominated them.

After that Cup run, they had a crap year, and then they traded them. They haven't been any worse since.

We're comparing a winger and a centre so it's hard to argue but voracek has a slightly higher PPG.

I don't know if carter was actually a problem or not, just that voracek is no slouch.

Of course, and so could O’Reilly.

Not in Buffalo anytime in the next two years, and he will be a depreciating asset when we actually contend.

I’m not saying O’Reilly sucks, for the millionth time

- sbroads24

And we aren’t saying he’s untouchable

Just that he’s better & more important than u will admit,
Even though...
-his peers hold him in high regard
-he’s held in high regard around the league by coaches/gms/analysts
-and even analytics nerds hold him in high regard

Wanna trade him?
Ok...
but it’s gotta be for a “core” piece
Not some “maybe” pieces

That trade made the Kings far better than it made the Flyers worse.

The Flyers weren't getting any further than they did with Richards and Carter. And they didn't really regress that much in the long run without them.

That's why i stay out of the discussion. some view him as a core piece, therefore expect a core return. I personally don't, therefore my expectations on the return aren't as high.

This is retarded.

Philly traded a known commodity to Columbus for a young player in Voracek and pick that ended up Coots.

Philly had 0 to do with Carter in LA.

Holy Jesus.

Agreed and I don't know, if they really were a problem they were probably better off moving them in the long run regardless.

One of the dumbest things you’ve ever written on here

Ruhwedel is a passenger on the Pens
Carter was one of LAs most important players

Come on dude
That was brutal

Because O'Reilly is one of the few (if not only) pieces that you can move to bring back anything meaningful.

Mike Richards had 11 goals in the regular season, and 3 in 26 playoff games the last time the Kings won the Cup.

He played a minimal role. The guy Philly actually traded to LA

Who got Brayden Schenn and Simmonds back.

I mean what are we actually talking about?

Even if it did, Carter's role changed dramatically moving to LA. Whatever link people want to draw between ROR and him doesn't work because he became more "valuable" in a lesser role, like most complimentary guys do.
