Look at the Sabres mid-to-late firsts in the past 15 years and tell me which one you'd like to move ROR for
- jcragcrumple

We have a general manger that understands how important picks are he came from Pittsburgh where every year they would not have a first or second round picks some years they made sure They studied those late rounds picks

So yes I trust our gm to hit on a late round first

So on one hand you have a perennial 2 pims, 20g, 35-40a guy who just set the all-time faceoff record, and on the other, you're gonna try to buck the trend of drafting Pysyk/Zagrapan/Ennis/Girgensons in the mid-to-late first round.

Good plan

Yes because every other GM is Chiarelli stupid. That’s how Botts will always win trades. But Botts won’t make mistakes. Like Beaulieu.

It's not a GM failure. Its a statistical fact that the player you draft has a better chance of being 4th line or worse (Girgensons) than a good player.

Your obsession with being a bad team is almost charming.

This group of losers stole your heart somehow.

Say it with me now “Keep this team together, keep this team together”

It’s beyond reason with you. You love O’Reilly too much.

We get it.

No one said to trade him for a pick and a pick alone in the teens

You said you'd trade him for #11 and Ho Sang. That pick has a 50% chance - according to draft history - of being 4th line or worse. So you trade ROR for a 50% chance at someone better than Girgensons and reclamation project like Ho Sang.

Those are your words, not mine

Absolutely would.

And again, I’d use the free’d up cap space to sign useful players

Who somehow will be paid below market value in perpetuity, and will never need a raise. You live in a fantasy cap land where all 23 of your players make $2m a year, and they all overproduce.

We have a useful player right now.

Beaulieu helped us gain the #1 overall pick as much as any Sabres player.

Maybe lehner is a close second

And it has been proven over the past 3 years that it means jack squat.

This team needs everything still.

Trading O’Reilly helps us in multiple ways.

Our difference is that you think O’Reilly is a rare gem that would never be replaced.

A team already proved they can

Don't you think a competent goalie with mitts, guhle, and dahlin will make a big difference?

Because they've been bounced in the first round without him? So Washington proved you don't need McDavid to get past the first round. Should the oilers trade him?

You sound like Fitz now.

McDavid is the only reason the Oilers went to the playoffs.

O’Reilly is rarely the reason we ever win games and we ended up 31st.

He’s essential to almost nothing

Got it. So good players can be on bad teams, but which players are good is decided by you, and how sucky the rest of the team is, is irrelevant

Yes, and O’Reilly is good.

Really good, or great players, move the needle, even on bad teams, like McDavid.

O’Reilly doesn’t
