If the Habs were to package up their best 3 assests they would still come up short of landing McKinnon - obie
If Gretz can get moved anybody can, they have the pieces to get him it's just a matter do they want to give them up. Toews makes a ton of sense but not sure overpaying for a guy whos on the downside of his career is smart managing |

The Gretzky trade was 3 decades ago, most things in the game are no longer comparable to that era, trades included! They really don't have the pieces to do it... like I said, the best 3 assests they have wouldn't get it done combined and Colorado has absolutely no interest in moving him... And Toews makes zero sense if you ask me, to each his own I suppose |

the Habs are trying to land a legit #1 center from a Central Division team...and they are willing to give up A LOT...including a player I thought was untouchable. - Eklund

Jeff Carter would be a much better option than Toews if they swing and miss on Tavares... Or even if by some miracle they were to land Tavares, Carter would still look great playing behind him - obie
Who would go the other way in a Carter trade? Love Carter, but with Doughty UFA next summer and the Brown contract still on the books, it would help mightily if the Kings moved a bigger contract like his. |

I think the Kings will be trying to move his contact also, with Kopitar locked up and Vilardi coming it only makes sense... As far as a return? Hard to say, depends on what direction LA is going, maybe Pacioretty on an expiring contact makes sense to them, maybe a guy like Byron could be involved? One or more of the 4 2nd round picks they have could be part of a package |

Patches for carter is terrible especially with him on an expiring contract. Hell no to that.
If patches had more than a year I’d say do it but not as a UFA the following year. |

Other pieces would be involved but the expiring contact is kind of the point, the cap relief it creates in Doughty's FA year |

Honestly I believe they’ll trade a guy like Pearson. Muzzin. Or Martinez. Before carterto get rid of cap space. |

It's possible but with Kopitar and Vilardi down the middle, they may opt to move Carter... Unless it's Vilardi they wanna move, Habs will up the ante quite a bit for him! |

Vilardi isn’t going anywhere and from what I’m hearing Vilardi will play RW. |

Must be nice to have that luxury, Habs have been looking for that guy for 30 years and the Kings are just gonna throw him on the wing eh? |

For the time being or the upcoming season I believe so. I’m sure he’ll be C at some point but for next year assuming he makes team (he better) I think it’s looking like RW |

I default to "wherever the kid develops best" line, but wouldn't it be great to see a strong center core again? |

Oh yeah for sure!
I mean I can see him either RW 1/2 or 3C during the season. I can’t imagine him not making the team.
Kempe Kopitar Brown
Pearson Carter Toffoli
Iafallo Vilardi Lewis
Clifford Thompson reider
Doughty Forbort
Muzzin brickley
phanuef martinez
Obviously move things around a bit. Vilardi to RW brown drops to 3rd line Lewis to C. I think next year is definitely going to be better if the kids pan out. |

Yes I’m not saying he doesn’t. But him being a UFA is extremely risky especially since the lucic and sekera trades Didn’t work out. I would consider trading carter if Pacioretty had more years left or if I knew he’d sign. When I say sign I mean 5 million which I doubt would happen |

Lol I just don’t see it happening. Due to the fact Pacioretty won’t sign for 5 or less and the kings will be in a worse position than with carter. Cap wise with Pacioretty or worse. Lose carter and Pacioretty
Like I said they will trade Pearson. Muzzin. Martinez before carter. I think 2/3 will be gone in the next 2 years. Plenty of space for doughty. |

Whether it would include Pacioretty or even include Montreal for that matter, I believe the Kings would listen to offers on Jeff Carter at this point. |
