This team is 5 years away from being in the playoffs. I want a team that will contend for a cup not a team contending to come in 8th.

Its like people here want the leafs of the last 10 years who had a goal of making the playoffs. I want a team like we had before, you know one that was battling for a cup year after year.

Trading futures at this stage of the rebuild would be moronic. The O’Reilly posts are foolish. Draft and develop.
- CanuckDon

Its like I didnt realize Orielly was not only 2LC but also was four top 4 dmen as well.

Ryan O'Reilly? Overpaid 60 point center, Buffalo needs "D" and they have Mittelstadt coming up.
- LeftCoaster

ROR the guy who drove though Timmies drunk? The guy who just said “i have lost the love of the game” fu@k that. He isn’t good but I don’t want a s@it show like him on my team. Red flags all over fo me.

what we have to do is finally rebiuld.

- mauryballstein

I think this has been going on for a few years, probably just not the way you and some others want it to go.

Either one of those 2 for Tanev.
- VanHockeyGuy

I'd do Tanev for Sam Reinhardt and the draft Bodqvist.

Problem is OW is pretty well going to 5
- VANTEL

I'm way behind here. But ya, seems like OW will be gone by 7.
In response to another comment (not by u) I don't see OTT trading back to 7oa (Gaborik $ dump). They opted to keep their 1st (not give to COL), they're not gonna move from back from 4.

1 BUF - Dahlin
2 CAR - Svech
3 MTL - Kadina
4 OTT -
5 ARZ -
6 DET -
7 VAN -

Everyone says OTT will wanna replace Karlsson. So Tkachuck and OW may fall. But that kinda contradicts what I just said previously. Trading back for a D would make sense then.

One consensus here is that Hughes will likely be the 1st Dman taken. Leaving a strong possibility that 1 of OW or BT will be available for the Canucks at 7.

We may not have got #1OA, but it's certainly made it more interesting as to who we will get at 7OA.

I was just spitballing with some centers, what I really want is draft picks, but hey, if the Flyers offered their 19th pick or Morgan Frost for Tanev, I wouldn't say no.

I wouldn’t either. I would probably take K’Andre Miller or Vitality Kratsov at 19.

Being a bad team is not rebuilding. It is being a bad team. Rebuilding is adding young players and picks so that you are better in the future. We are doing the opposite of that. The only reason why this isnt worse than it is, is because Benning has drafted pretty well.

Serron Noel or McIsaac , if he is still on the board, would be nice picks at 19.

He's drafted just ok, yes he got Boeser late in the first but the jury's still out on a few kids he picked high in the draft. So far Boeser and Virtanen are the only kids on the team and it's his fifth draft next month with the Canucks.

That is your definition of rebuild, not everyones though.
Some teams rebuild through trades, free agency or by complete luck things fall together.
Sometimes teams actually have patience and let the 5 year plan start falling in place, a la Winnipeg, lo and behold, they are a very strong team.

Watched a few US games now Hughes is decent

I would love to somehow get Jesperi Kotkaniemi to play with Dahlen and EP

- VANTEL

I've been watching his highlights lately. Real good player. You never know. Could be this years EP. At the end of the day, getting a real good player at 7.

Canucks desperately need a top six center this year, I still think Spezza is a good option if they could get an additional 2nd rounder with him.
- LeftCoaster

Spezza sucks now

But I’m on board if they give us a decent pick to take that cap hit

I like him a lot too, I think he’d be ranked a bit higher right now if he cane into this season with some hype and/or played in the CHL

The jets are an example of how to rebuild they are the exact opposite of what you are talking about and they are exactly of what I am talking about.

In his case sucking, as a player, means little, gives time for Pettersson to develop and it gets another draft pick. At least that's the theory.

Judd Brackett has been the Head of Amateur Scouting for only 2 drafts. Last years draft seemed pretty solid. Although Gradin had a lot to do with EP.

My issue with JB's drafts is that he hasn't given himself more picks going into them. It took a stupid NHL rule (which is now no more) to land us an extra 2nd.
