We're not trading you Andrei (frank)ing Svechnikov for Dougie Hamilton.
- BINGO!

Would you trade him for Doug Hamilton? We can dye his hair black.

How many top 10 picks in the NHL draft have moved in trades between now and the draft over the last 15 years? .... Not many the only one I can remember is the Cory Schneider deal that that was for a #10 pick.

Fact 1: The Flames rarely played like a team when things got tough. Would anyone deny that the atmosphere must have been "poisoned" somehow?
Fact 2: The Flames traded for DH's brother (gave up a 7th round conditional) when it was obvious they had minimal use for him as a player.
Fact 2a: Most people were shocked that Boston let him go.
Fact 3: DH and his brother were BFFs until his brother was waived and claimed by Arizona. Is he still a happy camper in spite of this?
Fact 4: DH seems a bit flakey (eg photobombing) which could be a good thing - but it might also be a sign of underlying immaturity which would not be good when the pressure's on.
Fact 5: DH didn't get a lot of trust in tough situations like PK and overtime.
Fact 6: If Flames have depth anywhere it's on defense.
Fact 7: There are some good players in this year's draft and imo both the Montreal and Carolina picks (at least) could be had for the right price. Even if their first priorities lie elsewhere, a deal is doable when a player like DHs in the conversation.
Fact 8: Stats may describe a team but stats don't make a team.

I am confused why fact 2a wasn't called fact 3, because 2 isn't related to 2a. And should be be 2a and 2b? Either way, shi++y post man.

Already lost the validity of your point there. That guy works harder than any flame on the ice. He's still our best defender captain and stabilizes the blue line.

As said many times, creating a hole in your defence to makeup for the offence is a lateral move

Sorry fella, we have different ideas of what a leader is. Since Gio got beat like a dog last year by Manson, he has had crazy glue in his gloves. he watched lucic punch smith in the face 3 times from 5 feet away in the midst of a 3-12 run towards the end of the season...he has free reign but he held onto his stick because he doesnt want to endure another beating. We need a new captain. if he is such a hard worker and a great leader...the flames wouldnt look like a middling ringette club with very little compete. Trade Gio now get some value for him.

Well I do work for a WHL team (Saskatoon) so I rarely comment on players from other teams for obvious reasons.

I have not seen any games so I can't really add anything of value beyond basic stats. Also, it's not at all uncommon for an overager like Glenn Gawdin, for example, to be producing at better than a point per game clip in the playoffs.

Todd how about a blog on why the Flames should hire Tim Hunter in some capacity before he's scooped up by another club. imo he'd be a great addition to the club.
Or a blog on why you feel he shouldn't be hired and so and so should.

He has a full NMC and won't give up a great situation where he's captain. He also has a very young family that would weigh in heavily into any remote chance that he might waive. You're idea is absolutely never happening.

Some interesting quotes from Brind'amour about Bill Peters yesterday.

Brindy said his approach to how he handles players is going to be the polar opposite of Peters. He wants to be involved with and have a relationship with each guy and push them.

Also said that in the past ice time and roster spots weren't handed out on merit, that guys weren't being held accountable and that wasn't necessarily Bill's fault all the time. Implication there is that Peters was kind of handcuffed by Francis on what he was and was not allowed to do.

That's interesting. We all truly never know what's going on behind the scenes. Tough to keep that in mind sometimes.

Some pretty big differences between the two situations that will limit wing any assumptions & predictions. Flames spend 16 million more on cap than Carolina did.
Really, the only real bad contract we have is Brouwer, so that gives BP a lot more tools. I also think that Treliving & Peters are on the same page of how they see steam needs to play in being successful in the NHL. Right or wrong, that allows Peters a lot of options he probably didn't have last year. Bottom line, I see BP being more of a NHL coach than GG. Glen was a decent fellow but has a huge learning curve he needs to go up before he is considered in the top half coaches in the NHL. For Tre's sake & as a fan, I hope he's right.

We all thought BP and Francis were on the same page as well based on their comments, and they probably were for the most part.

Problem with Bill Peters was that he focused so much on the specifics of his system and shutting down the opposition that he never bothered to manage the players themselves.

I think Bill can be a good coach. I also think he's an arrogant douchebag.

Instead of writing a redundant blog, why not write about something relevant, like how well Flames prospects are doing in the WHL playoffs?

Or if you really want to write about Hamiltion, why not look at from the opposite side and find a way why it would make sense to trade Hamilton?

- Hunkulese

This is just such a disrespectful way of approaching this, could you not have found an actual nice way of asking for some different content?

This rumour keeps popping up, whether in Toronto, or in Calgary or elsewhere, so, yeah, it needs to be addressed, and this was a different take on it, which I appreciated. Hamilton is a very valuable asset to the Flames, and in the NHL in general, and while true that dealing him could yield a large return, it also creates a gaping hole in your top pairing unless the return is a Doughty or Karlsson.

If you want a blog about WHL prospects, you could also write one yourself.
