Val Filppula? - YuenglingJagr
Well, hint: the player's career started after Kerr's career was over and before Filppula's career began.
Val Filppula bears something else in common with the player in question. |

Alex Lyon is still in consideration for the starters job in Philly I would say, very impressive game last night. Morin and Sanheim, injured when you need them the most, Sanheim for Galchenyuk, get her done Ron. |

That is so nasty flygirl, lol If you only understood, the Spokane Hornets have been around for 39 years now and have players on Philly and throughout the nhl, so happens they have lots of Pens, Bruins and Flyers. FTR I bleed orange and black. |

Hell, most pundits had the Sixers missing the playoffs, and finishing right around .500. Certainly even the most optimistic folks never had them winning a playoff round. FFS, they're probably one of, if not the youngest teams in the NBA and they will likely have yet another lottery pick with the Lakers pick at the 2018 draft. This team is going to be a monster for a long time.
- BiggE
I never agreed that it would have been fine for the sixers to go .500ish this year, squeak into the playoffs and lose. Simmons and Embiid have room to grow in composure and intelligence, but the skill isn't really going to be much better imo. That needed to shine through right away and lead to wins. (And it did.)
Sixers certainly have room to improve, as the team clearly wasn't ready for primetime this season and the young players showed their inexperience. But even before the season began, if you assumed Embiid would be healthy, anything less than a second round loss would have been very concerning imo. There would have been no excuse to only win 35ish or less games with a healthy Embiid and Simmons this year if they were the players that everyone expects them to be, and it would be clear that the process had STILL not produced a legitimate core for a championship contending team. |

Honest question for guitar players:
What would you rather listen to: a guy who is incredibly talented at playing the guitar but is only mediocre at songwriting, or a guy who is only mediocre at playing the guitar but is an incredibly talented songwriter?
As a non musician, I'll take the songwriting ability over the guitarist everyday. And that is why, to me, Eric Clapton and Jimi Hendrix are the best 2 guitarists of all time: they had fantastic playing ability and song writing ability. - jmatchett383
Depends, For example, don't particularly like dream theater, even though everyone in that band is very skilled. I just don't like the way the write songs. They are good song writers, but I dislike their style.
I do like the Black Keys, and their guitarist never solos, and when I've heard him I'm not impressed.

Exactly.
I think, aside from Dream Theater, Dragonforce is probably the best example. Sure, Herman Li can do some ungodly guitar tricks and play as fast as anyone, but 95% of their material just sounds like disorganized posturing, and the band's other members aren't really that good. Fun to listen to in spurts, but it gets really old really fast. - jmatchett383
lol -- didn't see this until after I posted.

I listen to a really wide range of music, a bit of which falls into the "technically impressive but meh on artistry" category. I definitely favor music that has soul and makes me feel something, or songs that have a great feel/groove/catchiness over just technical ability.
I say technical ability and not talent, because imo knowing when to play less or not play at all to better serve the song is a direct part of talent and musicianship. Being able to shred reflects a large amount of time spent on technical ability, but that alone doesn't make you a talented musician. Knowing which skills to pull out of your vault and at what times is just as important.
You can probably guess from my username, but David Gilmour is my favorite guitarist. He is capable of playing fast, as he frequently plays fast bursts of notes for very short periods, but what makes him my favorite is his ability to let his solos breathe to really have the maximum impact. That, and his fantastic guitar tone. |
