This is about the only thing I see being an issue. Sign in MTL and you have just signed up to be the savior. People wont hold Pacioretty, Price, Weber or Drouin to the standard Tavares would be held. He could make the team dangerous but it would be a fairly poor move for him when other teams could offer him all the same crap with half the pressure.
Edit*
That said, winning in MTL or TOR would be the biggest boon to any legacy ever. TOR just cant afford him, so MTL has the edge if he is a glass half full type of person. - nords21
He knows he would shine in this market, the endorsement opportunities would more than make up any loss in taxes, opportunities he may not get anywhere else with hockey being the only show in town, he would become the poster boy for just about everything |

I did notice that too... And to kinda answer your question, why would anyone? Why would Price resign from 8 years if it was so horrible? Why would Weber agree to go? Why would Petry pass up FA after only spending a few months there? Why did Alzner? Why did Kovalev love it so much?
And I understand that most those guys are not of his caliber but they still need to pay taxes, deal with the winters and answer to the media scrutiny! - obie
Price was overpaid, Weber didn't have any choice in the matter, and Alzner and Petry were also overpaid with long contracts. |

Don't get me wrong about Montreal, I liked the place when I visited, but it seems most players really don't like the pressure and attention being a Canadien brings. That said, you have a valid point. If he brought Montreal a cup, he'd certainly make money off of the publicity and probably get a 100 ft statue on top of the Bell Center. |

3 out of 4 only signed because they were overpaid on long deals? I like those odds considering that will also be the approach they will take with JT, it's a proven formula! |

Fair enough. At least we have that going for us in terms of being able to offer 11 million for 7 years. |

Without having to clear cap space no less!
At top line of Tavares, Pacioretty and Zadina should kick start the offense a little! |

Would*
I'd say the Islanders are still the favorite to sign him all things considered. They easily have the money to do so as well, plus the extra year. |

I don't think he's staying there at all, he would of signed by now... I know everyone goes back to the Stamkos situation but he's really the only one, every other franchise players either sign extensions the summer prior to their deals expiring or they leave. |

Hard to say whether he's staying or not. Getting him for Montreal would be unreal, but it's hard to be optimistic when there's going to be a plethora of other teams after him also. |

On a side note, I believe they should be using Byron, McCarron and 2nd rounders as bait to acquire a pick in the 15-25 range, could grab a real decent C at that spot! |

If McCarron can is the piece needed to get it done, then they may have to reluctantly part ways with such a promising prospect.
