we do this year, no problem.

it gets tight next year and will hamper our ability to upgrade our defense.

- Tumbleweed

That's why bringing in Tavares means losing Nylander or Kadri, and one of Gardiner and Zaitsev at least.

Yeah but where are you guys going to play Nylander
- Aetherial

We'll evaluate where he's most comfortable.

And play him elsewhere.

It would have to be Marlau and one of Gardiner or Zeitsev. My guess is Gardiner

I don't see how you can get rid of Marleau, unless Vegas. But why would they?

Marleau is tradeable on July 2nd of his 3rd year - but only if he agrees to it.

come July 1 2019 I think he will only be owed 1.25 actual monies

So, Az?

I think that we will end up paying someone extra to take the cap hit off our hands

Marleau's cap hit makes him almost untradeable
- but only if he agrees to it.

Connor Brown and 25th pick for Rasmus Andersson (calgary)
- senstroll

I'd rather keep Brown and draft one of Ryan Merkley or Nils Lundkvist.

Not necessarily. Cap is likely to be 78M-82M this year, and next year 82M-86M

Hyman(2.25M)-Matthews(11M)-Marner(7M)
Johnsson(2M)-Tavares(10M)-Nylander(6.25M)38.5
Marleau(6.25M)-Kadri(4.5M)-Brown(2.1M)48.35
Grundstrom/UFA(1M)-Altanon/UFA(1.5M)-Kapanen(2M)

55.85M Forwards

Reilly(5M)-Hjarmmasson(4.1M)(Example)
Gardiner(5M)-Hainsey(3M)
Dermott(863k)-Zaitsev(4.5)
Carrick(1M)/Borgman(1M)

23.46M Defence

Total 79.31M

You would have to trade Martin for sure, and let go of Leivo.

The following year Marleau will be expiring, and we can still add a mid tier D. I'd rather sign the Top 10 player this year, and figure things out further next offseason.

The 25th pick is how we're hopefully drafting one of the guys I mentioned.

I totally agree. That's how Chicago did it. They signed Campbell and Hossa and then started dumping salary but at least they had a cup.
