tampa could make it work. just move johnson out.

nashville too, probably.

- Tumbleweed

Tampa really cant unless they are willing to lose Kucherov after next year.

Nashville has Ryan Ellis and Pekka Rinne coming up after next year, and have their top 2 centres making 14M per season. Sounds like either is a long shot IMO.

After a very quick review of different teams cap space.

I'm starting to think Toronto has a every legitimate chance to fit Tavares in there.

Sickening.

Next year, sure: we can sign Tavares and Carlson... for one year. And then it all goes to poopville.

we do this year, no problem.

it gets tight next year and will hamper our ability to upgrade our defense.

Don't worry, the Habs will still score lots of goals on Toronto as we go into next season with the same defense and JT

Just not enough...

Not if you start to look at their D core and who needs to be resigned. They have the entire D core minus Hedman ready for new contracts. They could try, but I think it would be pretty tough.

It could happen though, which would be awful for the Leafs and the eastern conference teams. Talk about a powerhouse.

I wonder how it went from this:
“First of all, my responsibility is right here with the Toronto Maple Leafs,” Lamoriello, 75, said on a conference call Monday after it was announced that he will not continue as the team’s GM.

Lamoriello’s contract with the Maple Leafs included three seasons as the GM and four additional seasons as a senior adviser to president Brendan Shanahan.

“I made an agreement and a decision three years ago, and it is my intent to honor that,” Lamoriello said. “It was this morning Brendan and I had a conversation. Really, there are no other thoughts in my mind at this point.”

To todays news. Not a big deal and not surprising really but I wonder who called to proposition him.

coburn and girardi disappear.

stevie y has proven to be the best gm in the league at working the cap. i'm not betting against him.

You can't sign consecutive contracts on the same day, no. I believe you'd only be able to officially discuss en extention in january for the 2nd one.

The Leafs could certainly make it work. Marleau will be off the books a year after Matthews/Marner extensions kick in. Then some of D prospects could be ready.

I would like to see them try to fit him in, and upgrade the D with vets for next year(Hjalmarsson, etc)

Yes.

If I was his agent, I wouldn't recommend it.

Get the long term contract asap.

They still have to be replaced. They have Kucherov/Brayden Point/JT Miller up for renewal, and Vasilevsky has two more years.

Something has to give there. I agree Yzerman has been awesome at managing the cap.

Yeah the only thing adding Tavares prevents the Leafs from doing is adding a big contract player on defense.... which might end up being a problem if no young guys develop into solid top 4 players on defense.

It's a gamble in way, could payoff in the end.

They would take a cap hit of about 1.6M per year for 4 years, it's doable. Its the following year the cap becomes and issue.
