Tavares will get more than 10M.
He's a UFA and some teams are desperate.
Habs will offer him 12M a year without thinking about it.
Don't worry though, he'll still sign elsewhere. - Scabeh
If you're a superstar, looking to sign win a cup... do you take 14M from Montreal or 10M from Toronto?

I keep detracting from them, but I have a hard time seeing them having the same success next year. |

I don't believe that's all he wants. For one thing, he's most likely fed up with all the nonsense regarding team ownership and the arena.
But you're speaking as if his choice was the Islanders or Toronto.
There are other teams, let's say Vegas for exemple, who might be able to offer him both a winning environement and give him all the money he can get. - Scabeh
Not at all, I was referring to any contending team in that regard. I personally think he'd be making a huge mistake by going to Vegas, I dont think they are a long term contender. However you are right, Vegas could be a wild card in that regard.
Vegas will be at the cap in no time as well IMO. It will always impact the team long term. |

I think as a player signing a long term extension you would be hesitant to base your long term future based on 1 year. Who know's if this is a sustainable contending team, no one really. Huge gamble with your long term contract. |

I haven't given Vegas enough credit all year, even during the playoffs.
After watching them play more and more.... I'm starting to believe these guys are the real deal.... at least some of their players are. |

As much as I love this VGK story line, I think it'll all come crashing down next year. It's the perfect storm/Cinderella story and very unlikely to be sustainable/repeatable.
Not saying they won't compete for the playoffs, but the conditions will not be the same as this year (nothing to lose, playing for pride and contracts). |

Sure some are, but there is 5+ players having career years on that team, very unlikely that repeats next year. It's more likely they return to what they have been in their career. |

Interested to see how the Ducks play things.
Do they hope their aging forwards stay healthy? Make significant moves using their young defenders? Trade some of their budding prospects?

columbus would fall of the list with lifestyle. |

After a very quick review of different teams cap space.
I'm starting to think Toronto has a every legitimate chance to fit Tavares in there.
Sickening. |
