That top line without Nylander looks pretty weak. Another package makes more sense IMO. Nylander could play with Tavares, and marner could play with Matthews.

In an "off" year he had 61 points, which would have made him 3rd in points on Winnipeg, tied for second on Nashville, and 5th on Washington.
This without playing on the top power play unit.

Seems not too realistic or likely - wouldn't you agree. Cap is projected to be somewhere between $78 and $82 million. All the top Free agents will be expecting more than what I entered as well.

Nobody with half a brain wants to trade Nylander for no reason. It's to get better on defense. If Calgary really is shopping Dougie Hamilton and the Leafs can get him for Nylander, they'd be stupid not to. A 24 year old, big, offensive, two-way RHD is exactly what the Leafs need. It's not like the Leafs would be trading Nylander for a 7th round pick. They'd be getting something equally awesome in return on the blue line. Does it suck that the Leafs should already have Dougie Hamilton? Absolutely. But that's the situation they are currently in.

If the Leafs can sign Evander Kane and trade Nylander for Hamilton, they're a better team both up front and on the back end. Much bigger, much stronger, much harder to play against and much more balanced.
