Bill,

Is Varone any closer to dressing? Is there speculation on how long he may be out?

I have tickets for Saturday's game in Charlotte and was hoping he may play.

Thanks!

Varone is flying to Charlotte and is possible to play on Saturday

My point is more about I would love for there not to be this predetermined opinion of players due to their size or would be roles.

Is there any other job in the organization that Lappy could be moved sideways in to since Hextall refuses to fire the guy in charge of the league's 29th ranked PK? That's 29th this year, and for the previous four years combined.

Coaching roles are being evaluated was the last update from Hextall I bet PK is one that is changing and Lappy will be reassigned to something like fitness coach so he can run the injured players drills.

I'm a fan of Martel and would love to see him make it, but Danny Briere was on a different level, talent and scoring wise.

Maybe he can work within the development program?

I'm not sure what kind of message keeping Lappy in this role sends in the organization.

Lappy used to be the Director of Player Development. Kjell Samuelsson is currently the Director of Player Development and interestingly enough his son will probably be a first round pick.

It makes me wonder why Mullen was left go, an odd parting of the ways.

I think they needed room for Knob who was a promising young coach.

that is true. One thing about Briere is that while small, he wasn't slight. same with Timonen.

I know a few games at the NHL level where you look good doesn't mean much (see Weal/Leier who couldn't consistently play at the level needed) but I really thought he created chances when he had the opportunity and didn't hurt them defensively.

Danny was a monster scorer at the AHL level, in addition to his junior hockey pedigree.

The game might be a bit more structured than when Danny was coming up, so while I wouldn't expect Martel to put up Briere-like numbers in the AHL, he would need to score more prolifically to justify a spot.

As a I said previously, I like the guy's game and would love to see him earn a spot.
