Dude, foisting Dion's albatross contract on the Sens of all teams was too rad for mom and dad, that was a great move.

Finding a place for Kessel in the cap era was a good move too, didn't have many options.
Andersen was a great move. Sparks looks good.

Kadri's contract rules, as does Rielly's and Brown's.

It's easy to say drafting Marner was a no-brainer now, but they could have so easily picked Strome and they didn't.

- Zezel

In all honesty, I think they are a better team with Dion and without Zaitsev.

Yegor Korshkov says hi.

Honestly Wedgie, I am asking myself the same thing.

- Aetherial

Hey guys..your team is good. Only to get better. Would you rather have Sam Reinhart?
Embrace your success. It took somebody to pick these players.

Arizona selected Strome at #3.

Leafs selected Marner at #4.

- Atomic Wedgie

Oh yeah. I was bunning pretty heavily back then.

Point is they could have taken someone else, or Marner could have been a bust.

Leafs trade their 25th pick to Vancouver for Chris Tanev. Canucks trade their 7th and 25th picks to Buffalo for the 1st pick overall.

Things I have learned

All good moves = Dubas/Hunter/Shanny

All bad moves = Lou

All moves not determined as yet = Wait to put into the appropriate above categories

- AdamFrench

this is normal for any workplace.

it's all the fault of the guy that just left.

I think everybody would rather have Reinhart than Korshkov.

nope.

We know, he was not at fault for every goal against.. At what point, does the defense share in the blame?

- PatC80

OK, but at what point do Dubas and Hunter share the blame for us having such piss-poor defence?

I'm just looking at the deets again:

http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/draft/nhl2015e.html

It was a pretty deep draft. Everyone in the top 10 did very well...

...except, of course, Arizona.

They needed to scorch the earth, and they found a way to do it. Zaitsev will bounce back.

Phaneuf is a fine 2nd pairing defenseman. Overpaid sure, but come on.... I'd take him over Alzner/Benn/The real David Schlemko next to Petry.

He did pretty good in L.A. imo.

Problem with him was Toronto put him in a chair he couldn't succeed.... AND named him captain to make things worse.

Give it time guys. Your core is so young. Almost every other team would love to have the core players you guys got.

Up until this point? Not much to be honest. It's likely that neither of them were responsible for making the final call on any of the moves made..

Agree with it or not, Dubas deserves a chance to be the GM, he is an example of someone that started from the bottom and worked his way up.

Ya. Play him in the offensive zone all the time and on the PP and leave him on the bench the rest of the time.

Hey, Burksie, it's a dialogue here. Open forum.

I've asked the question: what have Dubas and Hunter done that shows they are the greatest rising stars in NHL managementdom?

Seriously, I'm asking you: what have they done that you think sets them above others?

- Atomic Wedgie

And I'm arguing your points. Dermott was a great draft pick. You don't watch Carlo to say he would have been better. We did not need a FWD at the time and still do not. It was about needs. Your opinion that Hunter has a hard on for Knights players, Dermott was not a Knight. Your opinion on the marleau signing? I guarantee other teams were offering close to. SJ paid Thornton 8mill and he cant even skate anymore. Im SURE they offered patty 5-6. And marleau came in and did EXACTLY what everyone expected of him 20+ goals. They traded a LATE first for a top 10 goalie in the league. If it wasn't for Freddie we would not be in the playoffs let alone made it to game 7. Hunter, Dubas, Lou, Shanny have been the best thing to happen to the CULTURE of the LEAFS in DECADES. Chill my dude, we lost in a heartbreaking fashion, youre frustrated, as are we all. Lets not piss in our managements cereal, and call it milk. They've done a fine job. Of course theyre going to miss on some things, not ever GM is friggin perfect. The phaneuf trade was genius, the Clarkson trade (forgetting that one?) perfect. The kessel trade was good enough CONSIDERING THE CIRCUMSTANCE. All love brother. Go Leafs GO.

And how was MARNER not a great pick? you a big Carolina fan? watch Hanifin TONS? id much prefer MARNER as he's been a STUD. Tell me another guy in the 4-7 range that's shown more promise.

In LA: 2nd pairing minutes, 55% o-zone starts, and playing in front of a great goalie to improve his PDO numbers.
Dion should get a 7 yr extension for $7M per season.

I believe that was Kekelainen calling Nonis and suggesting it to him.. Nonis didn't have to do any thinking... Thankfully.

Now all these guys are still pretty young.

But....

Werenski, Provorov, Hanifin, Barzal, Rantanen, Connor, Juulsen, Boeser, Chabot are all in the conversation here.

Not saying they are better than Marner, just that they're also very good.

Damn what a great draft year.
