I mean I don't actually hate pitbulls, but I cringe every time I see someone post another article saying they aren't dangerous, yada yada yada.

By the way, how many god damn industries have you worked in? You were slangin' pizza, apparently inseminating dogs (I am just assuming here)....what else have you done?

Close, I was a trainer.

I now work in a large School District as IT. A skill I picked up along the way. Animal welfare wasn't for me so I got the (frank) out. Not enough money either. My younger years I did pizza (19-28).

Edit: Oh and I completely agree about the dog posts. Imagine working in Animal Welfare for over 5 years the kind of "friends" that would end up on your feed. Most are hidden.

As a mailman I can honestly say that pitbulls aren’t the worst. They are way more friendly to me as opposed to say a chihuahua or a poodle for example lol. The little Napoleon complex dogs are the absolute worst. Labradors tend to be more vocal or unfriendly to me then pitbulls. I’ve never had to spray a pitbull believe it or not

I don't think all pitbulls are rabid monsters that want to eat your face off. But I'm tired of people acting surprised when their pitbull does what it's genetically made to do and rips up someone's arm into confetti.

If people want to leave their kids around dogs that can literally tear them to pieces, but "have never exhibited any of those traits" before...that's up to them, not me. But I wouldn't strap a 2 year old in my front seat with a seat-belt just because I've never been in an accident before.

Those little yippy dogs may be "more aggressive", but they're not going to inflict actual damage on people either.

A lot of it comes down to what the dog was exposed to during the formative period, which is typically between 8-10 weeks old and several months.

Little dogs can be totally screwed because during this time they are held on laps and furniture and groomed to be little bumholes because people think it's cute or funny. They often become territorial and possessive of their owners if not handled correctly.

Socializing is so important and often becomes the basis for how that dog behaves in a home. If a dog goes to a home and doesn't see anyone but the family for a year, it's not going to be the most well adjusted member of society.

Were you one of those PetSmart people that took a test that asked you to pick the dog from a pic of a dog a chicken and a salamander, and poof, you are a dog trainer?

It’s the owners really. The dog can only be what it is based the home it’s in

I get all the time when I see a real angry looking dog, “oh he won’t bite don’t worry”, I’m like “oh yea? He won’t bite you but that mutt will bite me” and leave there mail at the post office haha

That's it right there. I tell people this all the time. Regardless of what you believe about genetics or natural behavior. Simply put, a larger dog can inflict more damage if it decides to be aggressive. Some people just don't know their dogs well enough and put them in positions to fail.

Example: They bring the dog they adopted 2 hours ago to a dog park and are surprised when it turns into a fight park. I've seen so much at this point that I know for certain that the issue in most cases is improper handling by people. There are other factors involved, just like people they can be mentally defective too. But more often than not it is either people failing them at a young age (socializing) or at any other stage throughout their lives because they don't understand or can't read their dogs behavior.

So many bad trainers. My neighbor had a dog that was a year older than mine, but out of control. Well he got a trainer and the dog got better. He told me I should use the same trainer instead of the repetition and time I put in with mine. I said "nah I don't mind it." The he says "the trainer I had brought an e-collar and she was fixed in a week" I started laughing. Yeah, I can pretty much get my dog to listen to me too if I trained him with the threat of electrocution.

We had a few come through the shelter. most likely mixes but some resembled a Chessie close enough.

Are you looking strictly for a pet or do you want this dog to do retrieving for you?

E-collars have their place but not typically for a normal pet dog. I have worked extensively using those collars for a range of things. Huge benefit was using one for deaf dogs.

It wasn't usually meant to be a painful hit of electricity. More of a shoulder tap to get the dogs attention if they were blowing you off or you were trying to mold a behavior. The levels most dogs worked at I could barely feel.

Gotcha. No it's definitely going to be a working (duck) dog. I mean yeah, a pet too...but that little (frank)er is going to be bird retrieving machine.

I also use one for recall at the beach. Alot of people just turn it up till the dog is submissive. So much goes into using one properly

I had to modify it for her. Basically looks like a satellite dish around her neck. Couldn't drag her away from the salt water taffy

That's a good use. Some of our high level dogs we did off-leash work using them. We also used it occasionally for behavior modification but that is not always effective.
