Vegas has been an incredible story, but I draw the line at WPG or NSH next round.
Vegas hasn’t seen anything close to either of these teams, nor will they have the luxury of home ice.
It’s 11:59pm and the fairytale is almost over.

I would tend to agree with this, but they had such a great season already. All the pressure will be on the Jets or Nashville.
+ I don't get why some people can't get behind this team. It's such a great story. A little bit sour about losing players? |

Winnipeg will beat them in no more than 6. They are just as fast, are bigger and stronger and are hungry. Big Buff will play much better than Burns did and is just as dangerous. Vegas has had the Gods with them until the next series. Sharks gripped their sticks too tightly in the first last night. Missed breakaway, Couture fanning on the empty net in the first cost them dearly and the 4 posts didn't help either. |

I'm rooting for the Jets because Hellebuyck is a UMASS Lowell guy and Laine is an inspiration for ugly men and goats alike. I could get behind Vegas though. Looks like the Bruins will be just fine letting Collin Miller be drafted. |

Why is it so shocking that a team made up of basically all 2nd and 3rd liners are beating everyone?
Everyone protects their best and what they assume will become their best and then open up everything else for the picking. There are lots of 2nd liners that can become a top tier 1st line player when given the proper ice time in positive offensive zone starts. So Vegas ends up with a first line that is not quite as good as other first lines. The Vegas 2nd line is equal to or slightly better than most other 2nd lines. Their 3rd and 4th lines are far better than the majority of the leagues 3rd and 4th lines.
Their goalie is a top tier goalie that's only 33 yrs old. I'm sure many people think he's nearing the end of his career as he's been playing for so long (14th season), but he still has a few more years of great hockey left in him I'm sure.
The Vegas defense is similar to their forwards. No #1 pairing type Dmen but when a second pairing guy gets top pair minutes, they are able to surprise and flourish in that role.

You have a team there with no pressure, no expectations and some players who were tossed by their former teams that are playing with a chip on their shoulders. I still think that bubble will deflate at some point, but when? - stinger67

When you completely shatter the expansion guidelines to the effect that teams are literally giving up first round picks so they can retain their players it’s an absolute joke. Which is what this expansion process has been. Aside from which this team is playing so far over his head. I don’t understand how good NHL teams are losing in the playoffs to this team. This is the beauty of hockey because teams with less talent can severely overachieve with the right chemistry and a great coach. All this being said Gary Bettman needs to find a happy medium with his next expansion franchise and cannot give them the world taking away from other teams the way he did with Vegas
I still think it was just a classic case of GMs overreacting. They usually only do it on free agency, or the trade deadline. Last summer gave us one more opportunity.
Vegas could still only take one player from any single roster. This wasn't EA fantasy draft either, all the best were protected.
Nashville probably handled it the best of all the teams that were good. Let them take Neal. No bribes in the way of picks or players. Neal is still a great player, but his departure didn't cripple his former team. |
