man the 2011 draft was by far the most bizarre/intriguing in recent years.

I remember clearly how Couturier was the #1 for like 6 months and then in december when his WJC didn't go so well scouts back tracked hard on him after calling him the next toews.

They scrambled hard to find a consensus which by april was Nugent-Hopkins (barely). Couturier became a high risk pick. Now finally 7 years later, Couturier has actually turned into a toews clone and potentially one of the best guys from that draft class

I think this was also the draft where they cautioned everyone against Scheifele as well, (frank)ing scouts

- Sabresfan-365

No, What it tells us is that each player will develop at his own pace, It takes a tremendous amount of patience to stick with a player who is taking longer to find his game. Kudo's to Philly for being patient enough to allow it to happen. I know that is not how it works around here, But, it sure is a telling story.

The second overall is gonna cost a boat load. It would cost less to move to 8 or 9, and then up to 2, but I don't see anyway you're getting out of those two deals without it.

To Chi:

#2019 first (top-5 protected in 2019)
Reinhart
3rd rounder

To Buf:

Hossa's contract
#8

To Carolina
#8
ROR
Risto

To Buf:

#2
Hanifin
Bad contract

I wouldn't do it, but I think it's somewhat reasonable

People actually have the nerve to bust on Garth for his outrageous trade proposals? If I was Carolina, I would take that trade and laugh my way to the playoffs. You people are insane.

In no way am I saying we should.

The way I look at it, we don't need to trade ROR any more than they need to trade #2.

I think it would take a ton to get into the top-3. It just doesn't happen very often

This neither EA Sports or the NFL, I don't think trades along those lines happen in the NHL. Let me see if I understand this though. Buffalo trades 2019 possible top 5 pick (your words not mine), Reinhart and a 3rd, Risto, ROR, and the#8 and we get back the #2, Hanifin, Hossa's contract and whatever bad contract from Carolina. This benefits Buffalo how? You should have to sit in a corner for a week with no access to anything involving the internet.

No, it's top-5 protected from a Buffalo perspective, meaning the Sabres keep the pick if it's in the top 5.

Jesus, I've said 100 times I wouldn't do the trade. I just see that as a way to the top-2

As far as Beaulieu goes, if he doesn't fit into the top 6-7, you waive him and hope someone takes him off your hands or you send him to Rochester and maybe seeing that he is still fairly young, he could learn to be a better player. Damn, there's that Patient thing again.

I know 89 thinks highly of this player but this is what Boston traded for Rick Nash & his
5pts 12 playoff games

Bruins' first-round pick 2018 draft +
Ryan Spooner +
Matt Beleskey, +
Ryan Lindgren +
7th round pick

Couldnt happen to a more deserving team lol

So to Buffalo:

Hossa (long term IR)
Hanifin
Pick 2 (eichels winger)
Bad contract (they really don't have a terrible one)

Leaving Buffalo:
Reinhart
ROR
Risto

So the lineup would look like this:

??? Eichel Svechnikov
??? Mittelstadt Okposo
Bailey E-Rod Pomminvile
Wilson ??? ???

Hanifin Dahlin
Guhle Bogo
McCabe Nelson

Ulmark
???

Gardiner doesn’t play 28 minutes a night on the worst team in the NHL. I think their offensive abilities are on par with each other. Stick Risto as a 2nd pair d-man on one of the highest scoring teams in the league and he probably puts up more points then Gardiner in the same role. Stick Gardiner on this poop show of a hockey team playing the same amount of minutes and he probably produces less then Risto did this year.
- Pegullaville

That makes it more impressive though. He sees significantly less ice time and yet scored 3 times as many points at even strength.

Im not saying the gap is the grand canyon, but there is one. Gardiner is just better suited for the modern nhl and how d-men are used.

Wooooooo-(frank)!NG-hooooooo!!!

I absolutely love having The Bolts as my 2nd favorite team.
That was friggin text book display of how to play Boston
-Run the D harD and often,
-be Team Physical
-play your position and within yourself...don’t play into their stupidity by taking emotional penalties

Friggin Awesome!

Hope Phil was watching this game and taking copious notes as Tampa style is what h3 is gunning for!

We already don't have enough holes in our roster. Trading away ROR, Reinhart and Risto bringing back bad contracts for Hanifin and Svech.

So who is playing center on the second line? Who is playing a defensive role? That just doesn't make sense. You are basically trading ROR and Reinhart for the 2OA and Risto for Hanifin. We need to fill holes not create them.

You expect Mittelstadt to play ROR's role?

That was the rumour coming out of Boston. Im not sure if hes a (frank)ing goof but it kinda reminds me of Dean Maccamond and Tony Hrkac. Now, neither were as high end a talent as DH, but both moved around alot.
Tony Hrkac was a servicable NHL depth player, a journeyman, but I heard he was such an awkward geek that he just couldnt fit in anywhere. I mean....12 NHL teams between 87 and 03?
Dean Maccamond was a good player, solid middle 6 utility guy. 11 teams in 16 years ( sometimes returned to former teams). He was a bible thumper though and was always talking about Jesus in the locker room when everyone else wanted to talk about wussy.

- Larsson_fan

I don't think he's problem in that sense. I remember hearing how he was kinda quiet a little more posh? maybe not the best word but trying to paint a picture. Just always felt like he was separate to the room

We take on more cap space and get worse players in the deal though.

Hjalmarsson is a shell of his former self. He played similar minutes to McCabe and had nearly identical numbers offensively and defensively.

Max Domi had 9 goals this year and 4 of them were empty netters

Stepan is a lesser ROR at a bad contract

I think I'm the biggest ROR fan on this blog, so I don't want him traded at all. Gerbe mentioned the #2 overall pick, so I thought it might be fun to think about what it would take to get there.

It was not fun

Carolina would be nuts to move that pick. Svechnikov's numbers this year are on par with a lot of OHL greats drafted over the last decade or so.

Right?

I could see Montreal moving 3rd overall just because who their GM is

I don't see a way Carolina moves it especially for a team that needs scoring
