Licking an opponent is basically the same as spitting. Not sure why the league hasn't handled this with a suspension but not shocked that Gary's little pet Marchand gets another pass.

You are correct what it will take is for a stern beating to take place as if this continues, eventually there will be a player that will just crosscheck him in the face and bust his jaw wide open...which should happen anyways.

Team canada will likely look past him next time. Biggest goof I've ever seen in pro hockey.
When his contract is up his leverage will be nill as no other team will want him, management OR players outside of the bruins

I normally never want to see someone get hurt but for the sake of the sport I hope someone does a dirty hit on him marchand style that concusses him forcing him to retire....and then gets no suspension. Karma he brought on himself
