tampa bay has Braydon Coburn on the back end and Mr. Glue on the team...yet they somehow managed to get themselves on the verge of the ecf
- Michael Pachla

Sure, they also have Nikita Kucherov at about 6 mil under what he’s worth until this season.

They won’t have that luxury going forward

i know they said that but it's all relative. They could move on from Lehner and maybe okposo and sell that as "core changes"
- Sabresfan-365

I don’t think a goalie who they gave a 1 year deal, and a guy who was very close to never playing again applies to core changes.

We rarely disagree, but I will be astounded if no big changes are made

I think they want to but...there's an element of risk in moving a known quantity (even if overpaid) for the unknown.

You could tell the fan base cracked at one point during this season. They simply can't afford to be bad next year. If you add to whats here, it might be enough to make them pretenders and then whoever still looks out of place, you can move on from.

Fwiw, I don't agree with that approach, but it's a delicate situation.

That’s where I disagree. Adding to players who don’t play a style the GM wants isn’t considered adding.

It’s putting sugar on a poop sandwich.

It’s not even just catering to a coach, it’s the way the GM wants it too

Because it's a bad contract? They're getting there despite him being on the team, not because of him.

Every team is going to have at least 1 or 2 bad deals, doesn't mean the team can't be good and doesn't mean that contract is good.

It goes deeper than that. It's not just bad contracts or dead weight, they have very few good value contracts.

I mean aside from Dahlin on an ELC, who are the best value deals on this team, E-Rod and maybe McCabe? The rest are either paid market value, slightly above, way above or dead weight.

It's way too much and reduces your margin of error when trying to build a cup winner.

that's what I thought I heard...I really like pham, but not when things like that happen

It's a symptom of the broader trend here, that when something goes badly, it's always the Sabres (read: the Pegulas) fault. That's why I don't buy the "raw deal" narrative as it pertains to Nolan pt.2, Murray, antipin, etc.

As for the Pat L. question: I've heard it was because he wouldn't agree to trade Miller, but now the BN is saying Kim was meddling in personnel, which is fine if it's true, but they always stop just little short of actually saying anything.

The sports reporting in Buffalo has become toxic.

I think he would be looking over his shoulder...speaking of assistants, not sure the hajt hire was the best either...

this one will play itself out...I want to see him succeed and with dahlin on the back end plus probably guhle in the lineup, there won't be much in terms of excuses for him

- Michael Pachla

Was hajt a housley hire? Were they friends or have they worked or played together? Or was it a management decision?

It was a good hire, with the lack of experience .

The BN is anti Pegula and anti tank. It's never gonna get better. They can't get interviews with the Pegulas because they said some vitriolic things, and so now they take pot shots and whine
